once more it was grey and chilly, though still rather humid. greg started mowing the lawn saturday morning, but it was so thick from all the rain that the mower burned out and started puffing white exhaust and spitting oil. we took turns running the motor to see if we could get it to burn off and work properly again.
we picked up lunch from hooked, the small, local fish take out place we like. greg chose a breaded fish fillet and i chose fish tacos.
cookies from veniero's . .
since we had a late lunch, we just had a light meal for dinner.
the seagull who threatened to steal his lunchtime fish fillet was back to try and steal a bread stick with prosciutto. greg had to keep a look out . .
evening sky . . the stars were beautiful tonight.
----
sunday was busy. in the morning i wrapped up the cookies from veniero's
and wrote out a postcard for the reverend at the local community church.
he was celebrating his ten years in montauk and i wanted to attend the
service and give him the gift from greg and i and my sister and
brother-in-law. it was the first time i had been in church for a service
since 2019. everyone wore masks and i sat by a window . . no singing
yet. above is a photo of pastor bill receiving his gift from the congregation: a hand sewn stole with a scene of the church and the beach.
afterwards, greg and i came home for breakfast. (there was supposed to be an outdoor reception, but since it looked like rain, i think they had it in the fellowship hall.)
the lawn mower was sufficiently rested and cleaned out for more mowing today. thank goodness. i did not want to have to take it somewhere for repairs. i did the front and greg finished the back.
we also vacuumed out the car which was very hot and sticky work. though it was only in the 80's temperature wise, the humidity and dew point were high.
sunday afternoon around 3:30 we made it to the beach for a swim . . well . . i swam. it was much too cold for the florida boy (i have to admit, it did feel very cold after swimming in florida just two weeks ago!).
it was one of the nicest beach days . . the last swim i remember having out here was at navy road with korrina and adam.
i had steamers this evening for dinner, and two of greg's clams with the bellies.
yankee magazine had an interesting article about making blueberry wine and promoting blueberry vineyards in maine. there's also a good article on the sunrise movement . . which i haven't read yet, but look forward to.
----
a beautiful monday: a little warmer and a little steamier . .
the turkeys strutted through to say good-bye . .
passing the shinnecock canal at 6 pm. we had smooth sailing home. there wasn't any traffic heading onto the bqe; so unusual! it was like april 2020 when everyone was on lockdown. i'm always happy for a reprieve from the traffic. we pulled up in front of the apartment at 10 pm and it immediately started raining. i was glad it had held off.

These pictures are so pretty! I thought so when I looked at them a few days ago. That is annoying with the lawn mower. We have an electric one now and we need recharge it in between. Those seagulls can be very clever and aggressive :). It must have felt strange for you to be in a church again :). Is this the church your parents used to go to? Jonathan sent me a picture of some lassi he bought :).
