september 11

 i alternated between watching the buglisi table of silence dance this morning (streaming from lincoln center), and the reading of the names (streaming from the memorial; read these stories from the gothamist to hear from people remembering their experiences from that time - i found them very moving and wise) before going out to meet deychen at chanda's work (where she's a barista). it was good to see deychen and hear about her august performances this summer in two shakespeare plays in vermont. she's excited because in december a play she worked on in the spring is being produced again at the public theatre. i'll have to go and see it now (greg and chanda were able to go in the spring when it was performing uptown). she'll also be doing some get out the vote work in october. she is also now part of the food coop! (and owes a shift, as does chanda! greg and i were encouraging chanda to call her and sign up for a shift together.)

i walked over to jefferson market with her and then headed east to veniero's to get rainbow and chocolate dipped jam filled cookies to take to adam this weekend. i put some aside for chanda also. she doesn't like the double chocolate mint cookies i made because i put walnuts in them. she and adam are not fans of nuts in cookies, cakes and muffins. morgan made a plum cake sans cinnamon as a facial allergy was acting up. i haven't seen the prune plums yet at my green market. i think i need to be a little more observant this coming week as it's prime time for them and they should be prevalent.

sunday (mother's day)

we were out early in the morning to drive to the hospital in manhasset again. we first picked deychen up in brooklyn as she wanted to come along. it was so nice to have her and we talked over coffee and pastry in the hospital's little cafe while waiting for our friends to wake from a nap.

afterwards (and after we dropped deychen deychen home again), chanda, greg and i went out to eat at ayat in the east village.

we first stopped at abraço . . 

for their delicious frappe and olive oil cake.

walking past thompkins square where there was a concert going on . . 

special drinks at ayat (mint lemonade and hibiscus) . . 

and the amazing food . . 

there are so many beautiful gardens and trees in the east village . . it was fun walking through the neighborhood.

lille juleaften

we had our holiday visit to ferrara's this morning. we met at 9:30 as korrina had to be at work at noon. korrina and i tried something different this year and split a bread basket of two mini cornetti and two large slices of panettone (along with the mochas you see above). all was delicious!

afterwards, we all ran errands in different directions. greg and i went to faicco's and two other stores in the neighborhood. morgan and harley went to trader joe's and veniero's for cookies. chanda did some christmas gift shopping. 

i wrapped several gifts with pluto . . 

and cricket.

and morgana made dinner: gnocchi with acorn and butternut squash, ricotta and parmean.

it was so good!

it was also wonderful to have deychen join us.

another birthday celebration

 

a very grey morning dawned for korrina's birthday.

i put together another apple pie and made a pot of sausage, onions and peppers.

korrina came by around 1 pm, which is when greg (at work) and morgan (in london) were ready to call in to sing happy birthday and open gifts. i think chanda put together a whats app video call, or korrina did.

and then our friend deychen arrived.

meeting friends and stopping at the yarn store

 
i met sasha and reina this afternoon at cafe himalaya and afterwards reina and i stopped at downtown yarns . . i needed size 4 knitting needles.

i then stopped at whole foods for some groceries and as i was walking home, deychen texted saying she had too many bagels from murray's too good to go offer and would i please take a few (they had give her a whole dozen!).

so i met her at the jefferson market garden . . (you can see her in red through the branches, reading her book).

it was a warm and steamy day . . summer humidity isn't through with us yet.
