it was a sunny and warm day . .

greg had the day off from work so we went to qahwah cafe for chai tea (coffee for greg) and pastry (sabaya and khaliat alnahl, both with honey).

the daffodil zone and other things

the daffodil zone has increased in population and is looking springlike and festive for this holiday time.

----

(this morning i wrote up a post about ellen's 80th birthday surprise celebration; and a post of greg's and my last visit to the house with figaro)

today was busy . . at lunchtime i walked quickly to chelsea market to purchase fish for tonight's dinner (two salmon burgers and a small fillet of miso marinated salmon) and to get some dill for kendall.  i went quickly so that i'd be on time to meet janet for a walk into chelsea where we had tea at burdick (and shared a slice of their chocolate mousse cake with lingonberry jam inside).

we stopped at trader joe's on the way home and after saying good-bye i went to the laundry room to finally start a load of sheets that had been waiting on the table . . and then walked over to kendall's to drop off the dill and get a big hug from aurélien since he's just a loving little fellow.

good friday

st. peter's episcopal church in chelsea had an online good friday service this evening that was deeply poetic and moving, and which ended with a beautiful dance to the hymn, couldn't hear nobody praying . .

we had our traditional good friday dinner (that my mom always made) of cod fish with mustard sauce, boiled potatoes (and turnips this year) and stewed tomatoes. to make the stewed tomatoes i sauteéd a shallot with half a green pepper in butter, than added two jars of whole tomatoes with two sprigs of fresh thyme. it turned out well.

----

i took care of aurélien this afternoon while kendall went to the javitz center to get her vaccine. i took him for a walk to see chanda and then back again. it was cold out today . . 32 degrees and windy on hudson street. his little cheeks turned all rosy and then he fell asleep . .

and slept for a good while . . until his mama returned home.

good friday

this came in an email from our governor . . it's set to one of my favorite songs.

----

for good friday dinner, we usually have fresh cod with mustard/butter sauce and stewed tomatoes. tonight was a little different, but it was still cod fish: frozen fish fillets/sticks with buttered carrots and buttered potatoes with parsley.

we also played a round of bananagrams . .

passover seder

this is julia, brian's parents' cat.

korrina and chanda hanging out in the kitchen while waiting for the rest of the seder guests to arrive.

the turkey breast that brain's mom cooked . . we had a wonderful time with everyone, and of course the food was incredibly delicious.

korrina and i had gifts for the new baby in joyce and neal's friend's family.

i came home and dyed easter eggs . .

good friday

my friend and i took a walk along the high line. spring is late, but the daffodils, crocuses and snowdrops are all poking their little heads up.

and the pussy willows . .

our good friday dinner, cod fish and potatoes in mustard butter sauce along with a salad and stewed tomatoes.

 dyeing easter eggs . .

we used to tie cotton yarn around the eggs and the cabbage leaves. lately we've been using rubber bands.

from the left: cabbage, beets, tumeric and onion skins.
