wshington square

 

i had an appointment at 10 am this morning to have bloodwork done for a routine check up at the quest lab on 22nd street. greg came along for moral support, and it went well. the phlebotomist was incredibly nice and respectful and supportive and also very good at drawing blood . . she was quick and i hardly felt a thing even though she filled twelve vials (they weren't that big). afterwards, we walked down fifth avenue and through the park to washington square diner. it was a graduation day for one of the programs at nyc and everyone was out taking pictures.

we stopped at designer shoe warehouse for greg to pick out a belt . .
 

and had breakfast at washington sqaure diner . . 

 

a saturday walk with charlotte

charlotte was out early in the morning for a ballet class at joffrey . .

 

after which we took a walk to soho for a yogurt at chobani. we first ordered the clementine and pistachio cup, but then changed it to the seasonal special of fresh raspberries with chocolate bits and sauce. it was incredibly delicious!

 we also had a green tea and coffee from la colombe next door.

 we stopped at purl soho for yarn for a scarf project and then walked through the nyu campus that has the i. m. pei apartment buildings (silver towers) and pablo picasso's statute of sylvette david (cast by carl nesjar in a sandblasting process he called betograve; there's an interesting new york times article about it here).

charlotte went to her summer intensive audition for the kirov school, based in washington d. c., at around 4 pm. she said it went well (not too many dancers) and we had chocolate ravioli (!) for dinner with melted butter. greg was home, but chanda was at an "escape" party for her friend gabriel's birthday (they needed to solve a puzzle before being let out of a room).

tuesday night lecture and film

a homeschooling friend was able to get discounted tickets to a national geographic lecture at new york university's skirball center this evening. these special five dollar tickets are from "high five" and are targeted towards teens. this evening cinematographer bob poole talked about his life growing up in africa and how he started working for national geographic. he interspersed accounts of his adventures along with excerpts from his film gorongosa reborn: a cameraman's journal. it was a very  informative and moving evening and i'm so glad we were able to go. you can read nyu's synopsis of the event here.

after the rehearsal, chanda and i walked to dick blick to get dye for the t-shirts for the party tomorrow. on the way back we walked through nyu's washington mews. it houses their french and german departments.

the roses are beautiful . .

morgana and korrina did some water color paintings that will be turned into bookmarks for birthday party favors.

in the evening, m and c and i had high five tickets to see the new york city ballet. we ran into an old ballet friend there! it was very nice, and we were all happy because our favorite ballerinas danced this evening: wendy whalen, jennifer ringer, and maria kowroski.
