warm days, a cafe visit and a card game

after the few chilly nights last weekend and the chilly autumn air of monday, this week it's been back to warm and humid summertime weather. the cats and i have felt quite soporific again (and it was a little difficult sleeping at night - no cool breeze!).

i did manage to walk cross town to visit with my friend sacha at cafe abraço. (it was such a nice visit and we caught up on all our news.) (i checked for chestnut honey at the health food store and at raffetto's, but neither place had it - here's hoping they replenish the supply soon!).

i walked home along houston street to see what was happening with the feast of san gennaro . . everyone was busy setting up for the grand opening which was this evening. greg and i hope to visit sometime next week.

michaelmas daisies at the garden on la guardia and houston . .

it's a special garden as it was created in homage to the lost forests of manhattan by environmental artist alan sonfist.

this placard explains his concept titled "time landscape."

it was so warm this evening that i didn't feel like cooking . . so we just had sandwiches . .

we're up to round four in our "may i" game. so far i've been in the lead . . here's hoping i can maintain this streak!

coffee, flowers and clothes shopping

chanda and i noticed two new friends with the black cat today when walking to abraço . . crows or ravens? ravens or crows?

hello fig tree . . we love you.

(i stopped at east village organic . . but they were out of chestnut honey. he said they would order it though!)

and now it's very late and i'm still up and about . . putting together dance music for the wedding.

time for sleep . .

coffee and feverfew flowers

i walked to abraço today for their iced frappe and then walked home along 14th street.

everyone was wearing their knicks regalia as they made the finals and the city is in total go knicks mode.

feverfew in the union square green market. i love feverfew and chamomile flowers (they smell similar to me).

unfortunately, neither are good for the cats.

all for yogurt with rhubarb

i walked milly earlier today just so as to pass by chanda's barista job while she was still there to get yogurt with rhubarb compote.

milly had a treat too (i keep them in my pocket).

sunny day

it was windy walking milly by the river today . . but it was perfectly warm . . 71 degrees - not too hot and not too cold.

today i discovered that there is a fellini cafe on 14th street! they're everywhere.

she's wondering where her treat is . . it was in my pocket.

and she gets another treat at home.

korrina sent this photo of wash, which i love.

coffee and projects from morgan

greg and i went for a walk today and stopped at qahwah house. we tried their jubani coffee. it's a light roasted coffee and coffee husks with cardamom, ginger, and cinnamon (and we had ours sweetened with sugar).

morgan sent photos of two finished vests that had been in the works . .

i think they look fabulous though i've heard they don't fit as well as they should. i think they were begun before the january fitting workshop at vogue knitting live.

they've also been working in the garden . .

sunday - poem, palms, a parade and coffee (and zuzu)

a light exists in spring

a light exists in spring
not present on the year
at any other period --
when march is scarcely here

a color stands abroad
on solitary fields
that science cannot overtake
but human nature feels.

it waits upon the lawn,
it shows the furthest tree
upon the furthest slope you know
it almost speaks to you.

then as horizons step
or noons report away
without the formula of sound
it passes and we stay --

a quality of loss
affecting our content
as trade had suddenly encroached
upon a sacrament.

by emily dickinson (1830-1886)

my palm from church this morning (st. luke in the fields)

breakfast with chanda and greg

pluto and his puzzle (treats go into the green cups and he tips them out - cricket and zuzu were in the bedroom with their puzzle - it keeps them busy and keeps cricket from trying to participate in our meal).

meanwhile, the eastern crew were marching in a st. patrick's day parade with pastor bill . .

we all love the bagpipes . .

(photos from korrina and my sister)

at the house . .

oysters!

though i missed the fun of being at the beach and a parade, i did get to visit with lizette who had written me saturday afternoon wondering if we could meet on sunday (she was going to be in chelsea).

it was really nice to sit and talk together over some very good coffee.

----

chanda did send me these photos and a video of crazy zuzu trying to get my palm that i had placed behind a ceramic cross that was a gift from warren's norwegian family:

chanda put the palm away in a drawer, but she went looking for it again . .
