morgana went on youtube today to look up "how to set up cuckoo clocks."
surprisingly, we found all the pieces . . the cones and the top decoration and the ticker . .
my aunt and uncle gave us this clock many years ago . .
it was very satisfying to finally here it cuckoo.
i do think it's a bit loud for my neighbors. unfortunately, i will probably keep it silent more than i would like. i have fond memories of waking in the middle of the night when i was a child and hearing the cuckoo calling out the hour. i think my neighbors would pound on floors and ceilings if i let it go during the night. (sigh) oh well.
in the evening when chanda came home from ballet class, she showed me the variation they're working on.

afterwards, she went on line, as she often does, to watch other ballerinas perform the same piece. in the video above, a young 16 year old dancer from japan is performing the piece for a ballet competition.
then i went back to cooking dinner.
i made swedish meatballs and zucchini with pecans and apples from the around the world cookbook. the zucchini was really supposed to be brussel sprouts, but the sprouts in the store looked rather pitiful. it still would have been better with them i think. the zucchini just didn't work.
