lunch with korrina

waiting for korrina at greeley square (horace greeley was the founder and editor of the new york tribune) . .

and checking out the easy-to-read new maps we have now.

a quote from horace greeley that jason read to me: "fame is a vapor, popularity an accident, and riches take wings. only one thing endures, and that is character."

i thought korrina might be taking us to brian's new workplace, but she looked at me with disdain and said, "that's a fried chicken chain."

 we went, instead, to wonjo!

and it was excellent (from top left to right: spicy daikon, spicy zucchini, spicy mackarel, i don't remember the bottom right, cold garlic broccoli, a potato salad type concoction with carrots and cucumber and the last one all the way on the left i can't remember).

it was so nice to have her describe each of the dishes, because i had no idea what anything was.

my tofu shrimp, clam and octopus soup. the broth was delicious.

i chose to have the bibimbap, which is a popular dish. i had it with chicken, and with it came seaweed, spinach, sprouts, mushrooms and rice. it's served in a very hot metal bowl and the rice forms a delicious crust on the bottom. you're supposed to stir it up completely. i hadn't done a good enough job so the waitress came over and stirred it for me . . now i know!

we had the best seats on the second floor by the window. i kept saying that she needs to bring greg and chanda here.

amazing cinnamon, honey and ginger tea.

afterwards, we walked with her to work to see her restaurant's farm that she's helping set up.

i can't remember what plants she said these were . .

these were garlic . .

korrina then went into work and jason and i walked to theordore roosevelt's birthplace for the 4 pm tour. the tour guide was informative but talked so fast! it was the quickest tour i think i've ever been on. my favorite tour guide was the first one we ever had . . but i haven't seen her since. her name was alice and i loved how she wove the facts of the house in with the story of his life there (my post about that visit is here). i suppose i could ask about her someday!
