errands, baking, dancing and dinner

cute little doggie in the window . . seen while running errands in the neighborhood.

morgan went with me to another ailey class this afternoon. this time we learned a few segments of their dance night creatures.  we all had a fun time, as you can tell from the photo!

while i was getting a card and package together for grandma this morning, morgan made soft boiled eggs for us with buttered panettone.

chocolates all ready to go . . the post office worker said it should arrive on tuesday.

black bean soup for dinner . .

and chopped hazelnuts for biscotti which i just took out of the oven.

i'm very tired! time to get some sleep and morgan and harley just got back from visiting korrina at work. they enjoyed watching her cook and sampled a few of the delicious dishes.

and my right leg is a bit achy from the dance classes this week . . !

on the beach and about the town

and, yes, it was always incredibly hot and sticky. i was glad for the cloud cover.

back at the condo . .

i went swimming in the pool after the ride . .

and we shared a peanut butter smoothie from the health food store.

we picked betty up for lunch in town at the little drug company . .

it's not difficult to socially distance in florida . .

the prices of the lunch items are so low compared to nyc . . !

half an egg salad sandwich, a pickle and chips (favorite kind!)

they have the best hot fudge sundaes . .

greg had a butter pecan cone.

we looked in a few furniture stores and then made our way to the town's history museum . .

again, the prices of the happy hour drinks!

zelia sweett, one of the main historians of the town, and a major donor. her dress reminded me of isadora duncan dancers and i wondered if she had danced in her youth.

traditional beadwork and clothing from the seminole nation.

in 1822 east and west florida  merged into the florida territory and tallahassee was made the capital.

the alba court inn which betty remembers from her childhood. it was knocked down, which she disagreed with. the assisted living place she will be moving to is partially on the site it occupied.

hillsborough street which is now riverside drive along the indian river, and is now paved and lined with beautiful homes.

the new assisted living building is just a few blocks from the museum . .

her balcony is the one in the middle.

we went back to the condo and relaxed in the air conditioning . .

and ordered greek salads again, but this time from their favorite restaurant in town (it had been closed on sunday). i did think the salad was better than the one we had prior.

making progress on the shawl . .

florida trip 2021 - nyc to new smyrna beach

we loaded up the car around 7:15 saturday morning, june 19th, and were driving through the holland tunnel by 7:30. the photo above was taken while passing through washington d. c. . it was a cloudy day and stayed cloudy almost all week.

lunch stop at a virginia rest area between d. c. and emporia . .

gloopy peanut butter and jelly sandwiches . .

listening to scarlatti . .

we had made reservations with a hampton inn at fayetteville, north carolina and arrived there around 7 pm (it's a good half way point between nyc and new smyrna beach). there was a lot of traffic on the road; too many of us hurrying off to see family after covid. above greg is waiting for our take out order from cracker barrel which we ate in the hotel room.

sunday morning . . june 20th . . back on the road with some blue sky (though it began cloudy and drizzly).

getting ready to wind some yarn from opposite coast dyes for a knitting project (party on my needles by joji locatelli),

(as i had finished a sock with tré liz yarn  and was ready for something new)

while listening to first unitarian brooklyn's sunday service . .

unfortunately, i was having connection problems and they were having tech problems so we didn't hear the full service.

welcome to georgia . .

and welcome to florida!

where orange and grapefruit juice are still offered for free at the welcome center (actually a highlight of the trip for me! i love stopping for my free cup of fresh juice).

so delicious! i chose grapefruit for this trip . .

----

and here we are later that day with greg's mom. it was about 6:30 pm and after dropping our things off at the airbnb (with wonderful windows that opened and closed and air conditioning whose temperature i could control) we drove to pick her up and go to dinner. we chose a pizza place on the beach side where we all ordered greek salads (which we took back to the airbnb and which were delicious! it was so nice to sit in a comfortable kitchen/dining area and eat and talk together). the photo above was taken while waiting for our food to be ready. the beach was directly across the street so we took a walk along the shore . .

hello little egret - you look like you're enjoying your evening perambulation . .

i think this is a different egret who happened to be flying by . .

"come back soon" . . we will!

i'll post more in the next few days.
