my friend marisa bought some beautiful yarn at the myak showroom on perry street yesterday, so we planned a knitting date to get ourselves started on projects we've been wanting to implement. this is the view north from her sixth floor apartment window.
my friend has been trying to declutter also . . it's neverending, especially living in small spaces . .

her husband is tibetan and they have many textiles from tibet.
in the evening we attended a radio talk show interview with alison stewart who is on wnyc. she spoke with two authors who recently published books about louisa may alcott: the story of little women and why it still matters, by anne boyd rioux; and the march sisters, on life, death, and little women, by kate bolick (and jenny zhang, carmen maria machado and jane smiley).
i think alison stewart mentioned that it airs december 27th. it's possible they have it on their facebook page, which they did for a concert greg and i attended in the summer. my friend kendall said she watched some of it on livestream; i hadn't realized they were doing so. i really enjoyed being there and hearing what the authors had to say about why they feel the book is important (primarily that the sisters unashamedly pursue their dreams and each one touches on personality aspects that women still relate to today). there was much discussion about bronson and abby may alcott, louisa's parents, and how they were part of the transcendentalist movement and shared innovative ideas about education, social work and class equality. louisa's neighbors were also influential in her life: nathaniel hawthorne lived next door and ralph waldo emerson lived up the road. louisa may alcott has always been a favorite author of mine, and it was interesting seeing that other women have the same proprietary feelings! i'm glad that many people still appreciate her and take her story to heart. i feel that she encourages people to be courageous and honest and trustworthy; timeless qualities.
