it was time for our annual summer met visit. today we visited an exhibit with paintings from the accademia carrara in bergamo, italy. many of the artists were infuenced by the venetian school, which was the art mecca of the time (the fourteenth century). however, due to a proximity to milano, many art pieces were created for churches and patrons there. i wish i could remember some of the specific milanese infuences the wonderful lecturer told us about, but i neglected to jot it down. i really must take just a few notes next time. our guide was knowledgeable and fascinating to listen to. she had a delightful italian accent and, as it is for so many of the speakers we meet, she was passionate about her material. she loves these paintings and these artists, and she makes excited us about them also.
i sketched the head of a little girl from 1570, from the redeth family. the painting was by govanni battista moroni.
morgana sketched eurydice from a painting by titian.
and chanda sketched a deer found in a painting by bartolomeo montagna called, "st. jerome in a landscape." she noted that the deer symbolizes the sweetness and faithfulness of the christian disciple, and that he was walking towards the monastery.
after the lecture, we visited one of chanda's favorite paintings by léon bonnat, "roman girl at a fountain." she based her end of year dance for ellen on this painting last year.
this painting of graziella by jules joseph lefebvre always hangs next to the roman girl. i haven't read the book the painting is based on, but i would like to! my kingdom for a few extra hours in the day.
i've included renoir's "in the meadow" as she's been talking about trying to do a duet with someone from her class based on it. she loves these renoir paintings.

a construction of transparent and reflective modules that you can walk onto. it's a combination of art, architecture and science.

after visiting the fountain in the greek and roman wing, we walked through the park to the west side to hop on the train home.
