cats and breakfast and an afternoon walk

after breakfast with chanda, greg and i dropped the compost off at the park and walked to soho for an iced hot chocolate at burdick . .

we couldn't resist walking a few more blocks to the bookstore . . (i only looked. i did not buy!)

walking home . . the clouds and the sky!

sunday morning photo, shawl photos and a walk to soho

cricket
he's always there at the window with his latest escapade lurking behind him.

----

chanda was dressed up for a party this afternoon, so i asked her to model my finished shawls before she went out as she looked so nice. this is party on my needles by joji locatelli which i began on a trip to florida in 2021. the yarn is by opposite coast dyes (jacqui and diana).

and this is pure joy by joji locatelli that i began in june of 2023.

the yarn is plucky knitter in highlighter, pollen speckle (terra dk) and pollen (primo dk). i purchased the yarn at my local yarn store and had to add a skein from their website.

i was unhappy with the colors when i finished it! however, i now really love the brightness of the highlighter juxtaposed to the darker, citrusy green.

chanda making a face about going out into the hot, steamy day . .

cricket always likes a good-bye hug and kiss.

greg and i took a walk into soho for one of our favorite treats on a hot day: iced chocolate drinks. they are so rich that the melting ice cubes never weaken the sweet chocolate flavor. they are very popular.

we stopped at mcnally jackson before heading home . . just for fun!

i bought a book i'm unable to get from my library (by raja shehadeh who wrote palestinian walks) along with two books i found for christmas gifts. the top one is for my sister and has an english translation of each poem alongside the french. the other one is for janet and is a woman's culinary memoir of when she first met her husband in china and lived there near his family for the first eight years of their married life. i thought she might find it interesting as she likes to cook and has been to china . .

lovely townhouses on charlton street which seem to have a federalist style, but they don't have pitched roofs and they do have a full three stories rather than the two and a half.

the elizabeth irwin high school in what was once the charlton street memorial church, built around 1911 and which provided a gymnasium, reading room, various classes and a library. services were in english and italian. in 1931 it merged with the bethlehem memorial presbyterian chapel and then both buildings were eventually acquired by the little red schoolhouse which still operates today.

it was a very hot and humid outing.

korrina sent this pic . . she's back home and is happy that the yarn she bought when on vacation matches a skein of yarn she had at home. she must have a nice project in mind!

a break from the humidity

it was less hazy and cooler today (photo from greg while at work) and i opened all the windows for a nice breeze from the river to pass through.

i walked to mcnally jackson in soho to put in an order for a book i can't get from my library (in my mother's footsteps by mona halaby).

on the way home i passed this group of people. i thought first they were a tour group, but then noticed the rack of clothing on the sidewalk . . so maybe they were filming a movie?

hungry cats in the kitchen . .

korrina's ishbel (an ysolda teague design) that she recently started (she had knitted a beautiful red one years ago when a teen, but it's been misplaced) . .

and her yarn purchase from east hampton's local yarn shop . .

(also:
a sweater she recently finished with fantastic pockets.)

dog walking, bookstores, dinner out and a documentary

walked sweet milly today . .

waiting for her treat . .

and then i went to peruse the books at mcnally jackson . .

i was interested in looking at this book as i heard the author speak in an interview with brian lehrer on the radio. she quotes a line from a walt whitman poem as an opening to the essays, but doesn't include the full poem. maybe they couldn't get the rights to it? i'm not sure why this bothers me!

anyway, greg met me and we decided to try the georgian restaurant i walk by all the time on bedford street.

i chose a salad that was described as having walnuts, but i didn't see any. the server said they were ground into the dressing . . which is a part of the cuisine of this area . . but this bothered me too. i don't think i was in the best of moods today! (i complained about these walnuts all the way home too.)

walking home . .

chanda and i watched the last episode of the green planet . .

sunday afternoon walk

greg and i rode the citibikes downtown and then walked around the area he works in . . where he showed me his favorite haunts (all the different places he likes to have coffee in the morning and lunch in the afternoon). when we first began our walk, i noticed this couple each taking a video of the area with their phones, ending with filming each other . .

and then they compared notes. i thought they were very sweet together.

we stopped at the mcnally jackson bookstore . .

and at the restaurant where we ate with morgana in december of last year.

----
and in the evening . .

victoria got ready for her trip . .

and sent a photo of when she arrived home just in time for sunset (3 pm).
