evening walk

friday

we'll be visiting our friends in brooklyn sunday evening, so i walked cross town to pick up some prosecco that i know they like from trader joe's wine store. above are just two random people that were walking in front of me.

this is a thrift store i used to pass all the time when walking about the east village. it was nice to see that it was still open (many places have closed). the male mannequin next to the half off sign always fools me into thinking he's a real person. it still feels so novel to walk around downtown, and i enjoyed visiting an old haunt like paradis cafe on fourth avenue where i would often go when the children attended third street music school. 

 

dinner this evening was leftover minestrone soup and shitake mushrooms on balthazar bakery bread . . 

and then a gelato dessert after a walk on the high line (this gelato was so creamy that i couldn't stop talking about it).

we had breakfast together this morning (corn grits and green tea) before the girls went off to the theatre. i don't remember what greg is talking about. i wonder if they do.

 the young people went off to have dinner at a thai restaurant (spice) . .

 while the older folks went to amorino for hot chocolate and gelato . . 

(the hot chocolate was too thick for me . . i wished i had ordered the gelato instead).

hot days

yesterday morning felt so hot to me . . maybe because i was also so sore from carrying allegra around for three and a half hours. i'm not used to that, though i slept well. chanda and i were supposed to do some water color painting . . but we were moving so slow that it was never accomplished before korrina came over. we had a really nice lunch with her instead. her shawl is really looking beautiful, and it's so soft.

she had been looking for her tabs from the monster cans she has saved since she was a teenager (don't ask me what monster cans are . . i've really never paid attention . . i think they're a very strong sweet coffee drink). the company is offering a promotion where if you send in so many tabs you get a t-shirt. she wants to get t-shirts for brian and herself. i think it's so funny that she has saved them all these years. what's even funnier is that they were able to be found in her room where things have been moved around so often!

chanda had her last ballet class yesterday evening, and went out with a few of her ballet friends to peace cafe, a vegan restaurant on twelfth by university, and then had amorino gelato. she has some nice end of year pics i'll have her send me so i can put them up.

morgana is in phnom penh . . staying with a lovely student and having a fun time viewing the city from the seat of a motorbike and the deck of a boat. phnom has the tonle sap river, the mekong river, and the bassac river. from what i can see on the map, there are also many other small bodies of water; either lakes or ponds.

today is incredibly warm again. greg says it's supposed to go up to 90 degrees. right now there's a nice breeze and it feels cooler than yesterday morning. i closed the curtains yesterday morning. it just felt too hot with the sun shining in . . i suppose i should do the same now. 

tuesday doings

morgana and i had a visit to the dentist this morning and chanda had a morning ballet class (a pas de deux class with the school's trainee program).

this was my third and final visit for a crown that i had to get. i still need a lot of work done and i'm not looking forward to it. morgana had a check up and was happy to have no cavities, but her wisdom teeth are impacted so eventually she will probably have them out.

we walked past eataly and couldn't resist a gelato and affogato (vanilla ice cream with two shots of espresso).

the weather has been really nice with a warm sun and cool breeze.

i went with chanda to her ballet class to help with the ballet teacher's 3 1/2 month old baby and when i returned morgana had cleaned out and re-arranged all my kitchen cabinets. 

!!

she also got rid of a lot of "stuff" that i hadn't looked at in years and it's nice to have everything so organized.

while she was working she had not fed the cats and it was their dinner time so they were a bit pesty. i fixed that right away.

my dinner this evening was rather involved: swedish meatballs with carrot pennies and buttered potatoes. chanda did the carrot pennies while i cooked the meatballs (i had made them up before i left) and potatoes.

well . . korrina and morgana were both here tonight but not greg . . !

wednesday treats and sweets

it was an incredibly warm and beautiful day and chanda and i walked the high line to la bergamote cafe where we shared a quiche and tarts . . strawberry and . . 

blackberry.

and then later on since it felt like 80 degrees . . we had gelato at amorino on university place.

it really hit the spot!

we also sketched a flower on the high line, however, the computer has a new photo software system and i'm having trouble using it. apple is not on my good company list creating new programs that are more difficult to use than the old ones. these photos were taken with the smartphone which i upload directly to blogger. the ones from camera to computer i'm still figuring out.

 korrina has a friend who has a friend who has been studying at arrojo salon in soho and needs a model to work on. korrina would get a free haircut and color. she's been hesitant since she really likes her hair long right now.

 but it would be fun and hair always grows back . . so here are some pics with it long before it goes!

 while we were up on the high line, korrina got a text from the manager of the last restaurant she worked at. a neighorhood cafe needs a part-time hostess, so she'll trail tomorrow night and see how she likes it.
