greg and i drove out of the city on a grey and rainy friday evening. we were headed to connecticut to see my sister. it has been a year and a half since i've seen her . . a year and a half since we've been in connecticut. i was driving up every two weeks when i my mom was alive . . and now i've gone a year and a half without making this trip. it felt strange to finally be doing so. we arrived a bit late (we hadn't left until around 6:30/7!), and were up even later talking and having a late night snack (salad and warm bakery bread with butter). greg and my brother-in-law went to bed, but kathy and i then had tea and pie (apple/raspberry/blueberry from lyman's orchards) there in the dining room with toby meowing for her bedtime treats.

saturday morning we had a big breakfast of grapefruit, scrambled eggs with green peppers, tomatoes, cheddar cheese and chicken sausages, and then got ready to go biking on the rail trail.
i can't remember what kathy called these . .

i love how the rocks form a wall here. my sister said that this past winter the water running over it had frozen into thin icicles.
these two were so proud of how they figured out to load all four bikes on the rack. the seat came off mine, and chanda's went upside down (shhh!) . . we had brought chanda's up from home to have four bikes.

tallying up the scores for the three rounds we played. we'll add to it on the next visit. i was happy because i managed to keep my points down to twenty for all three rounds. greg was happy because he went out for the last round, my sister wasn't happy because she didn't get her cards down for that last round, and warren was happy because he did get his cards down for that last round.

sunday afternoon we went swimming and canoeing at the lake. it felt great to be in and on the water, even though it was chilly and i kept my sweatshirt on for part of it. it's funny to have it so cool after the hot, hot days we had.
it was just so nice to be back here . .
covid isn't over, but i hope we don't have to be separated anymore.
