a traveler returns

korrina returned this evening from her trip and it was fun to hear about her time with her aunt and uncle. she relaxed by their pool, visited a vineyard, had delicious seafood at a local restaurant (steamers and soft shell crab) and just enjoyed being with family. she was also happy to be back in the big apple again and reunited with her cat.

i sent the frame and these photos to my aunt as a gift one christmas. the pictures were taken at montauk . . probably in 1994.

visiting my uncle

 my uncle has a small apartment overlooking a marina. he's loved boats all his life.

 it was nice to join him and my cousin and watch the sunset in the evening.

 we had dinner on the patio and came inside for tea and linzer tarts . . and for perusing old photographs.

 my aunt evie (in the center) as a bridesmaid. chanda and i thought that morgana resembles her a little.

chanda was very patient with us while looking at old photos and telling old stories . . but she was happy to retire to the couch several hours later and watch the san francisco ballet rehearsals on the computer.

traveling south

that's the freedom tower poking above the new jersey wetlands. we headed south today by train to visit my uncle, cousin and her husband in maryland. it's been a beautiful warm day and we even went for a swim in their pool. my uncle is doing well, though slowing down from kidney disease. it's really good to see him and we had a fun time looking through old wedding photographs and admiring how well dressed and coiffed all the ladies looked in the late 1940's!

in the late afternoon we went to see uncle bill and to celebrate ryan's graduation. chanda first ran around with ginger.

 it was a particularly beautiful evening!

we had cheese and crackers first (havarti cheese with caraway seeds), and then steamed potatoes with butter and parsley, brussel sprouts with butter and garlic, a delicious local cauliflower from the amish market with melted butter, and grilled chicken. the chicken was also from the amish market and it was incredibly tender! morgana was the chief griller all week, and she became rather good at it!

for dessert we had (once again) coffee ice cream sandwiches and black and white cookies with fresh ground decaf coffee and cream.

it was our last dinner with uncle bill as we would be leaving in the morning. our week went by so fast.
