and it's wednesday

yes, another new onesie. no one onesie is perfect. this one is the same brand as the pink and white one, but a size larger. of course she can still slip out of the top part, which is why so many of them come up around the cat's neck i think. so we keep an eye on her and alternate . . it's going alright. her incision looks like it's healing well and she doesn't try to lick it too often . . of course her outfit doesn't allow her to. 

this healing process is not easy, especially since when she came home from the animal hospital she had a very different and strong odor from the surgery. cricket has not accepted her and hisses. we're keeping her separate. friends of ours had their cats go through this also . . after several weeks of hissing, suddenly they were fine again. we're taking it slow and cricket comes into the bedroom periodically to sniff around. zuzu just watches him. seemingly unconcerned, i think. of course i don't think she understands this situation she is in - living solely in the larger bedroom!

this is zuzu looking out the window during last week's snowstorm. she hasn't been feeling well today and has been hidden underneath the bed in the storage bin for the blankets most of the day. she came out in the late afternoon and slept on a pile of my scarves that need washing. she then lost her cookies for the second time today and it's been difficult to clean up from the rug. i'm now letting it dry and hoping to vacuum up the worst of it tomorrow morning. when she first was sick earlier, she lost her breakfast and a huge hairball . . so i thought she maybe just needed to rest, but now i'm not so sure. we'll have to see how she is tomorrow. other than that, it's been a quiet day. chanda did laundry, greg worked from home and i got caught up with some tai chi and yoga practice and a sock knitting project.

at the er

today morgan sent me this photo of an adorable strawberry child, made from a kit found at a craft store, but this post is really about spending the late afternoon and evening with chanda at the er, as she became severely dehydrated from a stomach bug. i had been out in the morning and early afternoon, and when i returned with some anti-nausea medication for chanda (prescribed by her doctor), it was plain that she was already too far gone and needed fluids. we took an uber to the emergency room which was busy so she had a bit of an uncomfortable wait, but thankfully everyone was kind and helpful and soon had her feeling better. she had two bags of fluids and one with magnesium which took a long time to administer. she didn't return home with greg until about 10 pm. i had left earlier to feed the cats and to clean . . i wasn't sure if she was contagious and i was worried about greg and i catching it. however, the bloodwork that was done indicated more of a stomach bug from food than covid, flu or noro virus (hopefully). i'm actually writing this several days later and she is once again up and about like her old self (though she did have a few days with a very sensitive stomach).

walking to the dentist

i was out early to walk to the dentist for a 10 am appointment. i stopped at joe for a decaf mocha.

i had never realized that 20th street is also called theodore roosevelt way . . but of course it would be as the house he grew up in is just down the block.

the basil plants from that day chanda and i attended the climate fair on the high line. they're growing so slowly. i think i'll compost them soon.

here's milly! i heard from her owner today. everyone is doing well and i may begin walking her again in january. (she's so cute.)

greg continues to improve. here he's reading a book on his kindle (a memoir by carol cassidy about her days with her husband neal and jack kerouac). (and all was good at the dentist: i had my teeth cleaned and had no cavities . . thank goodness.)

hooray! greg is sitting up and walking around . . and i'm not sure how or why pluto is walking along the back of the chair!

eating leftover spaghetti and meatballs for dinner by myself at the table . .

greg waving hello from the bed . . he spoke with his doctor today and was prescribed pain and anti-inflammatory medication. she also gave him exercises to do once he can sit up and begin walking around.

meeting korrina

 
i met korrina at the tj maxx next to the 59th street bridge at 1:30. she had a doctor's appointment at 3, but first we were going to have lunch at an historic pj clarke's restaurant. 

cat hair clips . . she wanted to browse through the sale items at tj maxx first . . 

and i wanted to check out the enormous trader joe's underneath the bridge . . 

walking west along 58th street to the restaurant on third avenue.

we shared three different mini burgers, tomato soup and a cider.

it was a fun visit and nice to be out together.

the doctor's office has a calm and relaxed atmosphere (no tv which is really nice) and the administrative people are very helpful.

they also have interesting books to peruse.

i walked her to the bus afterwards (you can see the moon in the sky) and then walked home, stopping back at the doctor's office first as she had left her headphones tucked behind a pillow on their couch.

i had to get back home to check on greg as his back had gone out on him when he was leaving for work in the morning. at 6:45 am i heard him yell "hah . . hah . . hah hah" from the door . . he had been putting the garbage in the foyer to take downstairs when he ended up on the floor! it's really bad. he managed to crawl onto the bed (in pain) and never made it work. he's having to eat and drink flat on his back. hopefully, it subsides soon . .

i went to sleep last night with a sore throat and woke achy and tired. it was good i didn't go anywhere as they finally got to our windows for the facade work that has been happening on our building and i was able to make sure to close off the bedrooms so the noise wasn't as disruptive. the blue tarp you see in the window is on a suspended platform the workers use when drilling.

the cats were a bit confused and did not like the noise . .

cats and pumpkins

the sun has been very strong and i sometimes close the curtains to keep the room cool. it was chillier today and i wore a sweater out to an accupuncture appointment. we've been having facade work done on our apartment complex. they're drilling around the windows: replacing bricks and waterproofing. it'll be nice when it's finished. i stopped by kendall's on the way back from the appointment today to pick up her air purifier. it helps eliminate the odor from the waterproofing. they haven't done outside our windows yet . . i'm sure there will be dust. hopefully, the filter will help.

greg had a fever the other day, but is doing better now. he decided to work from home as he has a bad cough. we moved his desk into the living room to be away from the drilling and waterproofing, even though it's not directly outside our window (it is right next door on either side).

saturday green market and errands

i've been very sick all week with the flu. today was my first day out since last saturday. greg and i met up with kendall and aurélien and then walked to porto rico imports . .

we just finished dinner with chanda who has now left to see a new studio ghibli film with a friend in brooklyn. before dinner we watched a little more of the david attenborough our green planet series which we had started two weeks ago.
