lots of photos from today

well . . it's been a crazy few days . . greg has slowly been getting better and also preparing for a colonoscopy this morning. he last had one three years ago. first he thought it would be cancelled as he received an email two days ago saying he couldn't be on anti-inflammatory medication. however, he spoke with his doctor who said the concern was mainly for patients on blood thinners, and the appointment could be kept (which is good because he did not want to reschedule).

we caught the bus at barrow street and rode it downtown to chambers, and then walked east to city hall park and then to william street.

the woolworth building, once the tallest building in the world from 1913 to 1929. (you can read more about it here.)

st. paul's chapel . . (built in 1766 and manhattan's oldest surviving church building) . .

all went well at the appointment . . the doctor said everything was "beautiful" (no polyps this time) and greg doesn't have to return again for five years.

walking back uptown to a diner on warren street . .

this pigeon was having a fine time doing his own thing and having a bath . .

finally some food and hot coffee at the gee whiz diner . .

there was a very cute little three year old girl at the table behind us who was singing happy birthday to a friend over the phone and also "the sun will come out tomorrow" from annie. both she and her grandmother were dressed completely in pink. they were very cheery and friendly.

walking past the federal style townhouses . .

the two giant sturgeon at pier 26 . .

found in the city's waters: (starting from the left) striped bass, northern sea robin, barnacles/gribbles/and shipworms on piles, american eel, lined sea horse, oyster toad fish, oyster cluster, red bearded sponge, blue crab, blue and ribbed mussels, red algae.

resting . .

we passed a few of these assortment of snacks with a drink. someone must have left them out for another someone.

in the late afternoon i ran out for ingredients for a lunch for korrina tomorrow. she'll be thirty one.

monday medical test

greg's colonoscopy went well and he's very happy its over with. here are the photos from our walk downtown and back again . .

walking past shuka restaurant at 8:30 am . . a lot is going on in this photo. the woman on the left seems to be arriving home with her dog and her luggage. she's watching what is going on further up the street where a restaurant worker is trying to roll a passed out man off the garbage that is on the curb while two people walk by, and another worker is almost mooning us while he brings up supplies from the basement.

we're walking south along church street here . .

look at all the cables that live beneath the street . .

we passed parents taking their children to school and parents shopping with their little ones in the stroller . .

this is about where i left him (on william street) and i continued walking west to find a cafe as i couldn't wait in the medical office due to covid.

i ended up at eataly where i had a cappuccino and a pound cake with poppy seeds. i then decided to visit the barnes and noble on warren street hoping to find a place where i could charge my phone as it had died, and also buy a book i was interested in reading.

i found the book and was able to charge my phone just inside this doorway that led to barnes and noble and bed, bath and beyond.

returning to the doctor's office on william street, i passed this building that was being buttressed by these huge steel bars.

ummmm, i was glad my apartment wasn't in this building . .

waiting for him to come down from the medical office . .

he doesn't look very happy here, but he was! he chose chicken noodle soup just up the street from the office (at the marketplace where we ate three years ago during his last test). he's showing off his hospital band here.

it's a much quieter restaurant scene than three years ago . .

trying to take off the hospital band which for some reason reminded me of a dog trying to chew off his leash . .

we walked home past the world trade center site . .

where there was a tour happening . .

this construction . .

will become this theatre center . . glowing at night from the lights within . .

the proposed entrance . .

"everyone's different and everyone's the same"

we decided to stop at duane park patisserie for tea, coffee, quiche and pastry. we were served by madeleine; the chef herself. her cashier must have called in sick. she was very busy as one customer after another walked in and i imagine she was cringing inside from not being able to bake her cakes.

in this photo above greg is checking on the little sparrow that was hopping about. he was worried it might be the killer sparrow that used to harass him when he worked at time incorporated at brookfield place several years ago . .

this little fellow? killer sparrow?

where did he go now?

there he is . . pecking up pastry crumbs i dropped . .

i thought he was so sweet . .

there were several little sparrows hopping about and nibbling at the herbs in the planters surrounding the cafe entrance and the tables by the street. they were even jumping up and grabbing the red petals from the plant in the photo above. they were very cute amidst all the concrete, construction noises and neighborhood chatter going on.

good night!
