covid week

i'm feeling much better today and have been up and about in the apartment. it's day seven for me, so according to greg's doctor, i could go out among other people but only with a mask (i'm still taking it easy inside, anyway). today began very grey and rainy, but the sun came out about an hour ago. greg took the compost this morning to the green market and helped kendall and aurélien get their heavy purchases up to the apartment.

i saw these pumpkins in the photo above last friday on bank street. i thought they were very cleverly carved.

some photos from during the week . . (greg and i quarantined in the back bedroom, hoping to spare our guest. it was good we weren't both very sick at the same time).

resting with all the cats on the bed in the big bedroom . .

pluto looking extra cute . .

breakfast together . .

eating lunch with greg . .

oops! and cricket . .

oatcakes and prune butter . .

cricket didn't like this so very much . .

greg trying to cheer me up on tuesday with a song from his childhood, one he learned in music class in elementary school. i've actually never heard this one!

wednesday's lunch, chicken noodle soup from the nearby grocery store (gourmet garage - greg picked up soup from there quite often).

watching mrs. harris goes to paris wednesday evening . . friday morning i watched an episode of ted lasso with morgana and this video was sent to me:

yes, a rat scurries by and morgan thought it was quite a big one, but greg and i politely disagreed. the fellow was really quite cute and petite . . comparatively (i think morgan has been living outside of nyc a bit too long).

the rat video was taken near this lovely old building. friend oakley has a new job here, helping the residents find housing, work or other needs.

a contemplative zuzu, wondering why i'm in bed for so long.

you might think pluto is wondering the same, but he was just waiting for zuzu to come back down to his level so he could continue chasing her.

cricket antics . .

a very grey and rainy friday morning . .

oatmeal with apples and honey and cinnamon . .

friday night dinner.

and dinner this evening: moussaka and foule salad from moustache.

sunday afternoon

today was a beautiful day to traipse around the neighborhood again . . looking for obscure medicinal teas.

saturday morning

i spent the morning with aurélien while kendall went to the green market. they had an 11:00 birthday party to attend at the carousel in the park.

(i love kendall's expression in this photo.)

such a wet day for a birthday party!

(i actually ran around in the rain too . . getting medicinal grocery items for greg as he has covid, and also doing laundry. i also had to pick up some cat food from the vet for pluto.)

a walk through midtown and some swashbuckling

at the eye doctor's . . she spent an hour and a half with me. my eyes are crossing and i need to strengthen them. i'll go back friday for the therapy evaluation.

back out on the busy streets after the appointment . . .

the schwarzman building of the new york public library.

fortitude the lion sits on the north side of the steps and patience on the south.

the newly renovated midtown branch directly across the street. korrina says there's a cafe on the roof.

back at home, there was a swordfight rehearsal happening across the street . .

dinner was chicken soup, half of which i took to deychen as she came down with covid (on her birthday no less!)

a sunny day and the coffee store

i left a knitting meeting talking about tubular cast on and ran out to meet greg for a walk to porto rico imports (where he likes to buy his coffee).

every day has hovered around 28 to 35 degrees.

this is our favorite store at which to buy coffee beans.

he usually gets "alex's blend" and today he also chose the guatemalan blend (one medium roast and one light roast).

we walked back along downing street to bedford and then to leroy where we parted ways. he went home . .

and i stopped at the library to pick up several books i had put on hold. they look good, don't they?!

here i'm passing merriweather cafe where it was very busy inside. chanda and the other workers always feel a little bit on edge when all the patrons want to sit inside . . especially on such a nice day. (they kept the door open.)

the sunshine felt warm and uplifting, despite the traumatic news we've all been getting from ukraine, along with the continued troubles in syria, yemen, armenia and afghanistan . . and places of which i may not be aware. they're in my prayers every day. how do we stop the people in power from making weapons of war?

pluto antics

pluto has been inspired by figaro to clamber up on the table lately . .

he does this by digging his claws into the cushioned chairs and pulling himself up, and then stepping daintily and carefully . .

i'm sorry i missed filming his jump back down onto the floor, as it was so graceful.

early morning walk home

when nanny daniela arrived i said good-bye to minerva and everyone and walked out into a beautiful bright morning.
i walked along west fourth street to grove and then to hudson to visit with chanda before walking home.

she made me a new drink they're offering: a gingersnap - oatmilk, espresso, ginger, brown sugar and cinnamon. it was so good!

everyone was heading into school for the day. moms, dads and caregivers were ferrying the elementary school children to class and then standing around with their coffees catching up on the community news. i headed home to our cats.
