holiday celebrations

 i visited the green market this morning, but a little later than usual and after talking with kendall and aurélien and helping them back to their apartment with their packages, i stopped at the muddy farm stand for kale and eggs, but they were sold out of both. what time is it, i asked. the farmer answered 11:30, but we made a mistake and so don't have the amount of eggs we normally have.

what do you think was the mistake?
 

in the afternoon, morgan and i attended a holiday dance performance that our friend was in. she had a small role as a waiter in the show titled alice, choreographed by igal perry of peridance. her part might have been small but the dancing was bold and fun and the show was fantasic with a mix of song, dance, moving projections and original compositions. we really enjoyed it.

kudos to charlotte for a beautiful performance.

i stopped and said hi to chanda at work . .

and had her sign the card for my brother-in-law whose brother recently passed away.

in the evening i visited janet who was having an early solstice party, and re-connected with some good homeschooling friends. it's getting cold again outside and is really feeling like winter.

nutcracker night

 my friend jeanette and i made plans to see her daughter's nutcracker show at peridance, where she takes classes most days after school. she's in her senior year of high school, and this is probably her last nutcracker before going to college, unless she attends a school in the city and is home for rehearsals at holiday time.

 we met beforehand at a local restaurant we thought would be nice to try. the food and coffee were very good. i had grilled octopus and then we shared a creme brulée.

 her daughter is in the school's youth ensemble.

it was a fun show. the dancers were all exceptional and the choreography was very clear and took into consideration the small stage and number of performers. the production also used video well, highlighting the story with images of the city and using graphics for scene changes.

the peridance contemporary dance company . .

the theatre is part of their school; they simply remove the divider between classrooms. it has such a different feel when the risers are put up and the full space is used.

monday monday

i was up early with morgana and chanda as they both have dance intensives beginning this morning. chanda is studying ballet at the gelsey kirkland academy of classical ballet, and morgana is studying movement, voice and drama with jim may from the anna sokolow theatre dance ensemble at peridance. after morgana's class, she spent some time with her friend at the cupcake cafe and books of wonder on 18th street. i met her there and we went to soho to pick up chanda. we're all rather weary, and m and c are sleeping already. i need to also. good night gracie.
