sunday morning poem and sunday night nor'easter

these winter nights against my window pane
nature with busy pencil draws designs
of ferns and blossoms and fine sprigs of pines,
oak-leaf and acorn, and fantastic vines,
which she will make when summer comes again . .

a quote from thomas bailey aldrich (1836-1907)
(excerpted from the farmer's daily almanac, friday, february 6, 2026)

(i remember often waking to these etchings on my window as a child, but these days i no longer find them. i'm not sure if that is because our windows are thicker and better made, or if the winters really are not as cold anymore.)

----

a nor'easter began rolling in around 6:00 in the evening . .

we had fettucini alfredo and a salad which was supposed to have been greg's birthday dinner (but instead had the treats from korrina that night) . .

and photos from morgan:

a new table and chairs bought on sale which they had been thinking about for awhile . .

it folds up!

and the latest knitting project which night be a vest, or maybe a sweater . .

london is blooming! (plum blossoms?)

very different from here:

9:00 this evening . .

london rainbow

morgan sent this lovely photo yesterday . .

but today i received photos from storm eunice:

which devastated many beautiful old london trees . .

and someone's very nice car!

a bit scary! thankfully, no one was in it.

to end on a lighter note - here is greg's view from work today (he went into the office) . .

cards, figaro shenanigans and a nor'easter

the weekend at the beach was cold, crisp and clear.

my fingers froze trying to take pictures.

sunday breakfast . .

and sunday online service with first unitarian.

figaro was up to the funniest doings . . exploring behind the window cushions . . (and in the sofa in the tv room - thankfully he couldn't get stuck in the living room sofa again because morgan stuffed it with towels) . .

and trying to capture a chandelier (i suppose . . unless there was a bug flying around that i couldn't see).

trying to keep him off the table is a time consuming career.

sunday's dinner . .

playing cards with greg's new deck that he got for christmas . .

each card has a new yorker dog cartoon . . many of which i find very funny.

sunday night i listened to the wind howl as a nor'easter blew in (the wind on montauk is always very intense) and on monday we went to see the ocean before getting on the road home.

my last chocolate snowman from lilac chocolates . .

as we were unloading, chanda hurried by on her way to an open mike that emily was performing at (i was ready for bed!).

two cats happy to see each other again.
