tenth night

 they listened to little women for my sake . . we knitted awhile, and then the return of the king was put on . . and i ironed . .

 working on their macbeth lines . .

 dinner was pasta carbonara . . 

and homemade chocolate ice cream.

this morning morgana and i watched de blasio's inauguration speech on the ny times website. after he finished, they played this song. i had heard this song about a month ago and couldn't remember the band or the name. it's chic's good times which came out in 1979. kudos to greg for remembering the band and the name of the song. it's one of my favorites.

tenth night

chanda and i took a walk to houston street to buy ravioli at rafettos. the light in the sky was beautiful and i noticed the shrine church of st. anthony of padua across the street. i've been passing this church for years, but never stopped to look. you can find st. anthony's story here. it's very interesting! he's originally from portugal and was an augustinian monk, but then changed to the franciscan order.

st. anthony's was the first italian church built by immigrants in nyc, and the second in the us.

today we admired it from the outside. it was built in 1866, when the prior church was lost in a fire.

we decided to have lunch at doma since they have a special of $5 pretzel and sausage and salad.
