birds, cats and scones

 

morgan and harley were up in the lake district on vacation with harley's mum, brother, sister-in-law and adorable nephew, dougie. they sent this photo of a pretty european robin who let morgan get so close. 

they were at a very pretty cafe that had a lot of sweet birds flitting around (looking for scone crumbs probably!)

these photos are actually from wednesday, august 25, when i was traveling to connecticut. this past weekend we spent a quiet time (far from the crowds, as it was the memorial day weekend) at home and on wednesday my italian class began again! it was exciting to be back with everyone and i've made a better effort to remember everyone's name, as they were all knowledgeable in that regard.

here's a photo i took today of zuzu acting like the queen of sheba which i sent to my sister . . 

she sent this of toby who likes to go in and out of their window (her favorite pastime is sleeping in the windowbox) . .

breakfast with chanda and greg . . (after palm sunday service)

in the afternoon i went for a walk to downtown yarns in the east village for a size 3 16 inch circular knitting needle and passed several interesting buildings on the way back on bond street . . 

this used to house the dick blick art store the girls and i would walk by when on our way to a waldorf crafting workshop with other homeschool families years ago on second street. we always enjoyed stopping in to browse all the lovely art supplies; sometimes buying watercolor paper and watercolor paints or a gift for a friend's birthday.

i met greg at kerber's cafe for dinner at pesce pasta (i had linguini with calamari and shrimp . . he had chicken parmagiana). it was a nice afternoon and it felt good to walk in the sunshine.

a dance performance and a movie showing

i attended two thirty minute performances of the ailey company at the whitney today. the first performance was the studio company dancing harmonic edge and the second show was an excerpt of several ailey works performed by the company itself. both performances were beautiful and uplifting. it was special to see the differences between the younger studio company performers and the older professional performers who embraced more fluidity and sureness. all were amazing and i walked home feeling like i existed on a different plane.

in the evening i met greg at the library for a screening of tennessee williams's night of the iguana, directed by john huston and starring richard burton, ava gardner and deborah kerr. i had never seen the film before and it was very good.

i sent this to morgan today as the 89% humidity was much better than yesterday's 97% . . 

and received this in return . . they're visiting the lake district . . it's so beautiful.
