by day the blue will pale down into white where it touches the white of the land, after sunset it has a new circumference-orange, melting upwards into tenderest purple. but the core of blue persists, and so it is by night. then the stars hang like lamps from the immense vault. the distance between the vault and them is as nothing to the distance behind them, and that farther distance, though beyond colour, last freed itself from blue. -e.m. forster (a passage to india)

dance class at the museum

ailey extension presented two classes this week . . one on wednesday was in the horton technique . .
and one on thursday was in a broadway jazz style. wednesday's class was taught by lisa johnson-willingham and thursday's by matthew ward. both were dynamic and supportive teachers and were able to transform a room of mixed abilities and ages into a cohesive group having a joyous time. wednesday's class managed to dance a segment from the ailey company's revelations and thursday's class managed part of a chorus line's final number. a grand and exhausting time was had by all (including me).

i've been helping ellen with her afternoon class on tuesdays. the children are very sweet and energetic.
this morning i also helped kendall with drop off and pick up for aurélien as she had a check up with her primary care physician (all is good). aurélien and i had fun eating lunch at his little table and reading books together in his tent . .

bounty
the vegetables are exploding at the green market! the bunches of kale, hakurei turnips, collards and mizuna mustard greens are huge and difficult to cram into my bag! it was also colder this morning, and since i was out later than usual (9:30 as opposed to 8:30 . . the darker mornings cause me to sleep longer) there were more people on line, which meant my fingers actually grew a little stiff from the cold today. i persevered, however, and came away with cheese from the cheese stand, fish from the fishmonger, apples and cider from the orchard and many vegetables from muddy farm. back at home, chanda was preparing a new mask to wear with her grace sweater (designed by denise bayron) that she knit over the summer, and greg was packing his bag for a walk to seward park and the common books cart. i used chanda's computer to attend a virtual dance class with ron brown (evidence dance company) (their facebook page) (and a virtual discussion with the joyce theatre and fellow choreographers), which was incredibly fun, energizing, exciting and sincerely humbling. our friend amelia was also participating (in her own space, of course!) and i had fun connecting with her. i was impressed with the flow of the class, he was able to teach and correct in a smooth rhythm that felt comfortable and challenging. from the dance class, i switched right into a letter writing training session with the sierra club to get out the vote, focusing on writing registered voters concerned about the environment. after dinner i watched a documentary about ruth bader ginsburg on kanopy, which i've joined with my montauk library card (i was very happy when i realized i could do so, since the new york public library cancelled their subscription). (dinner was tuna with potatoes and leftover ratatouille.)
