today was my childhood friend's birthday.
maryann and i have been friends since meeting each other in fourth grade in mr. deitch's class. we had him for a teacher for two years, which we both found amusing. we used to sit together in the back and i'm surprised that he didn't separate us; we talked so much.
today she came into the city to have dinner with me at arturo's on houston street. she was happy to see that it's the same as it was thirty years ago. it's nice when some things don't change.
afterwards, i took her to cookies and milk on commerce street. we had a sprinkle cookie, a snickerdoodle cookie and a chocolate chip cookie. the salesperson behind the counter was even kind enough to run downstairs and get me her lighter so i could light the candle and sing happy birthday.
so many memories . .
the perfect end to a birthday dinner of two old friends. maryann went home to celebrate again with her teenage son and daughters.
