we began the day by reading "song of the open road", by walt whitman which morgana had picked from the waldorf poetry book. afterwards, we read a chapter in the neverending story, and then the girls did workbook schoolwork (morgana did math, latin, and typing; chanda did handwriting, math, greek and latin).
in the afternoon they both had dance class uptown. i decided to take fresh pictures of the latest sculptures on broadway. i've been meaning to post about this installation for awhile now. artist peter woytuk has had his work displayed here since october. they're really lovely, from the bear at 68th street to the raven atop of apples at 66th, to ostriches in the park, and a pair of bulls up at 168th street.
woytuk received a degree in art from kenyon college in ohio in 1980, and then took an apprenticeship with sculptor philip grausman in connecticut.
he works with foundries in china and thailand to cast his large pieces in bronze. transporting them after that must be interesting! you can read about the sculptures exhibited along broadway here, and about peter woytuk here.
