about the other dances we saw on the weekend

ellen had her shows this weekend. greg and i saw the thirteen year olds perform "walkaround vermeer" on saturday evening along with the 15 year olds performing the backpack dance, and on sunday chanda and i saw the dances of the six year olds, ten year olds, teens, seniors (our friend charlotte graduated from ellen's classes and will be in college in september) and the alumni. sunday's show covered a lot of classes! it was the six year olds first time on stage and they were adorable performing "the wedding of the mouse" while the ten year olds did the towel dance, and the alumni did an original piece titled "this is not a story." it was all very joyous and magical and a lovely end to the weekend.

we also helped with load out and took the props to the storage facility.

monday morning

i met kendall early this morning for a little dance performance at aurélien's school.

(it was so cute and fun and the children had a wonderful time. i have a short video, but for some reason it's not uploading properly tonight.) well, i just tried converting this to an mp4. my new iphone uses a different resolution for videos. this is so stupid and annoying. now i have to convert anything i film with my phone if i want to post it here - unless there is a way to change the setting in the phone, but so far i haven't read that that is possible.

lots of happy families! it was a great morning.

knitting and a dance performance

today was "knit in public" day. i walked to bryant park for the event and to meet my knitting group. i couldn't find them at first, and so ended up sitting next to jaana from finland. when everyone else arrived, we took our chairs and joined them.

i left at 4:15. i had to get back to feed the cats and to meet greg for an evening dance concert. ellen's teenagers and alumni class had a 7:30 performance.

it was a magical evening! the teens (including sacha's charlotte) presented their solos (all so wonderful) and performed "tape dance" or extra genre. it's one of my favorite dances that ellen teaches and it was exciting to see. also, the six alumni (lou, amelia, krista, rakhel, maia and marina) each had a solo and they were very inspiring. they all keep morphing into their own unique and beautiful style of moving and thinking.

there was a shining silver slipper of a moon tonight (which you can see just over greg's head and the lamppost) . . 

and the linden trees are suddenly in bloom.

at the ballet

greg and i took the bus up third avenue to the theatre at st. jean's on 76th and lexington for a dance concert charlotte was performing in. 

international american ballet presents a better planet, a better world.

she did two pieces for the show: the queen of the waters, choreography by marius petipa, music by edouard deldevez and ludwig minkus; and snow maiden excerpt, choreography by the director of the program, analia farfan, with music by tchaikovsky. she danced beautifully in both pieces, as did everyone in the show. it was really lovely with exquisite backdrop settings by alessandra mattanza (photography and paintings). the show itself is an extension of an artistic campaign dedicated to creating awareness of the need to protect the environment (a better planet, a better world).

it was a fun evening and greg and i really enjoyed the show. brava charlotte!

a sunday show

 
greg and i began the day at chelsea square diner . . 

and then since ellen's sunday show wasn't due to begin for another hour, we stopped at a new cafe that had just opened around the corner from the theatre . . 

their apple pie and chocolate cream pie were delicious!

and then it was time for ellen's show . . this is her intermission lesson when the young people are invited onto the stage to learn a dance.

it was another wonderful performance.

it was a very lovely night and they quite outdid themselves with the delicious food.
