good friday

 my friend and i took a walk along the high line. spring is late, but the daffodils, crocuses and snowdrops are all poking their little heads up.

the witch hazel tree with its winter blooms . .

 our good friday dinner, cod fish and potatoes in mustard butter sauce along with a salad and stewed tomatoes.

 dyeing easter eggs . . 

we used to tie cotton yarn around the eggs and the cabbage leaves. lately we've been using rubber bands.

magnolia blossoms and easter eggs

 

 the magnolia tree is in full bloom this morning . . this 32 degree morning!

 m and c dyed easter eggs yesterday . . 

 we always get nice purple/blue colors; yellow and reddish brown . . but no green.

 they used red cabbage, tumeric, red onion skins and regular onion skins. i think one year we tried spinach for green, but it was very light.

 i was on the phone and computer most of yesterday, talking to family about pick up times, and trying to figure out train and bus schedules.

 before the girls ran off to see their friend who had been in california, we knitted a little and listened to little women . . 

 well, morgana and i knitted, chanda worked on her toe shoes . .

dyeing easter eggs

we used blueberries  raspberries, curry (i had meant to grab the tumeric from home) and onion skins. morgana also wrapped a few in nylon with leaves pressed inside. some we boiled in the dyes, some we just soaked for an hour or more. everyone is at the beach now. i'm resting with a terrible cold. kathy took nana to put flowers on aunt evie's grave, and greg is on the train almost pulling into the station . .
