korrina came by today with gifts for her sisters. she made both of them advent calendars: packages to open from december 1st to december 24th filled with mini yarn skeins, sweets and tea.

(we met chanda working in a coffee shop near her school with two student friends. the part-time faculty of her college are still striking and the full-time teachers are supporting the strike. a resolution does not seem imminent yet. unfortunately. you can read about it here.)

after dinner, victoria and i usually have a cup of tea together and share stories of travels. i've heard about her time in argentina, kosovo, and nicaragua. she's made many films for the united nations and for her home country of finland about conflicts in these areas. she began as a freelance journalist and then accepted a full time position with the UN. this evening we talked about winter in finland, and how her friends there are preparing for it this year.
cricket likes to jump onto her lap and sit quietly while we talk.
