morgana and chanda love the view from my friend
kendall's apartment. they say that you can pretend to be in victorian
england when looking out, as all the buildings are over a hundred years
old.
by day the blue will pale down into white where it touches the white of the land, after sunset it has a new circumference-orange, melting upwards into tenderest purple. but the core of blue persists, and so it is by night. then the stars hang like lamps from the immense vault. the distance between the vault and them is as nothing to the distance behind them, and that farther distance, though beyond colour, last freed itself from blue. -e.m. forster (a passage to india)

halloween decorations on october 29th
october 29th is a big deal to me as for the past two years we've had major storms. so far everything is quiet today, and surprisingly nothing has been predicted. so . . in celebration of such a halcyonic future (at least for the next few hours) here are some of the halloween/autumn decorations chanda put up on our windows.

is the bee trying to pull the tablecloth out from under her?
i believe the ants are taking off with the pears and bread and crackers . .

the bird on my window
eva and her family sent us an ornament made from their magnolia tree.
it's incredibly smooth! eva, who helped you sand it so smooth? and did everyone take turns painting a different part? it's really lovely. thanks so much for sending it. is there a story about the tree?

another day

chanda had a low fever today, and spent the day in bed. i puttered around and didn't seem to accomplish much of anything that i can remember . . morgana babysat and went to ballet and a rehearsal. korrina had some pictures developed and went to her script analysis class. for dinner i made the creamy potato soup from amanda soule's rhythm of the family book, along with a zucchini bread. i didn't start it 'til late, but the potatoes cooked up quickly. it was a good meal to have on such a dark and rainy day.
