at the green market

i bought tomatoes, zucchini, green peppers, onions and fresh bread at the green market today, as i'll be making red bean and quinoa chili for my sister  - we're having another get together this weekend.

(who are all these beautiful people walking by?)

back at home . . a very cozy pluto . .

dinner with greg . . salad and leftover soup and mushrooms.

i'll post more when we return on tuesday.

pizza in naples

chanda and emily are excited to be in naples!

and they found an amazing pizzeria that is also supposedly opening a place here in our neighborhood on bank street. when they told her, chanda replied, that's where i live!

(the menu reads da michele dal 1870).

this margherita pizza looks delicious!

i believe this is the street the pizzeria was on.

bon voyage

lots of travelers heading off today. in the morning i helped kendall pack up her car so she could get on the road to upstate with the baby . .

and in the afternoon greg and i saw these two off to italy for twelve days . .

pluto helped too . .

chanda managed to talk her father into driving them to the airport . .

happy trails . .
(i'm sure the delay leaving was due to greg checking the traffic on his phone).

a birthday gift!

a beautiful card and lovely tea from eva . . (the card was made by her aunt) . . it arrived in the mail yesterday and i waited until this morning to open it. it was a nice surprise . . thank you eva.

three tired creatures . . or maybe they're just too hot and sticky . . it has been warm again (it's been going back and forth this summer).

now they look a little sad and grumpy . .

a quiet sunday

i made buttermilk buckwheat pancakes for brunch after we joined first unitarian on zoom for sunday service.

and dinner was very casual . . chanda made a salad for us and we discussed her plans for traveling to naples and positano on wednesday with emily.

a saturday summertime walk

there are so many good things at the green market these days . . peaches, blueberries, zucchini, garlic, eggplant . .

well, greg and i didn't go biking, but we did go on a long walk to the lower east side to visit two particular places: a bookstore and cafe that we had heard about.

the first stop was sweet pickles books on orchard street where jars of pickles were sold along with a great many books (though we didn't buy either today - we just browsed).

walking towards the manhattan bridge . .

and walking beneath the bridge while a bus was loading passengers and their baggage . .

to our second stop . .

dreamers cafe on henry street . .

where i bought an iced jasmine tea (it was a warm day!) . .

and silent spring by rachel carson for chanda (she had asked if we had it just a week before).

walking home along essex street . .

past seward park (where there's always a serious game of volleyball happening) . . and then to essex market where i bought a bottle of coastal craft kombucha (they're based in oceanside on long island) . .

here we are on ludlow street where someone is waiting patiently for their owners to return . .

houston street . .

meltzer park . .

past prune restaurant which is still closed . .

and first street garden . .

to busy bleecker street . .

and home . . dessert was ben and jerry's vanilla ice cream with blueberry compote (dinner was a sausage, kale and potato soup - it was a rather hot dish for such a warm day but i needed to use up the kale and i didn't feel like having kale salad).

a little bit of rain after a museum visit

i visited the whitney today specifically to see lee krasner's the seasons (which i loved), painted in 1957 (oil and house paint on canvas).

the jane street garden was open . . (and we didn't realize it, but a storm was slowly approaching)

greg met me and we ate at tavern on jane since it started to rain (a little sun shower which kept us from walking to bus stop cafe . . )

greg was tracking the storm with accuweather's radar on his cell phone . .

chanda and emily passed by. they said the were on their way to eat at sandbar on hudson (which used to be high street). you can see their two little figures silhouetted at the end of the block.
