heading home

today was a little hectic as it involved cleaning up and packing in addition to breakfast, a last minute walk into town, lunch and a stop at the hither hills overlook. we left relatively early in the afternoon as both korrina and morgan had dinner dates with friends (while chanda had a morning and afternoon class on zoom).

we're all in agreement that we like the latest ronjo paint job.

pluto has been having a grand time exploring all the interesting corners of the house.

a stop at the overlook on the way home . .

moon cookies made with honey, spelt and almond flour . .

treats for the trip home.

summer cleaning, the beach and gosman's dock

we've been doing a bit of cleaning here and there (windows, drawers, bathrooms, rugs), but today it was time to tackle the topmost shelf in the kitchen. we wiped . .

vacuumed . .

and sponged off dust and grease . .

we washed and dried the canisters and put them back up.

these beautiful blue windmill canisters were my grandmother's and were made in germany.

we saw this same set in the 1975 movie ballet shoes that morgana and chanda like to watch (not the recent one with emma watson). it shows in the scene where they're in the kitchen ironing and preparing dinner.

when i was little i loved rearranging them on the hutch in the dining room in our house in massapequa on poplar street.

and at easter i would always peek inside each one to see if the easter bunny had hidden any eggs there.

nana bought this set with her sister at a flea market one time together. they split it between them. however, i don't remember seeing it in the apartment when we were visiting uncle bill. i'll have to ask my cousin about it.

putting everything back up.

morgana likes these little spice jars the best.

we both found it very interesting that they were made in czechoslovakia.

i checked on ebay to see if there were any just like them. all were slightly different.

i was hoping they may be worth hundreds of dollars!! no, they're just sweet spice jars for twenty or so dollars.

we visited the ronjo who's had a new paint job. i like the copper color, but it is very different. the motel has changed hands and is now trying for a more classier look.

morgana didn't even attempt to sit in ronjo's mouth . .

 chanda just about fit.

they took the playground away. we peeked in. behind the gate and fence is a spa with wooden lounge chairs and two jacuzzis.

we had to drown our lost playground sorrows in ice cream at the health food store.

and then we went to gin beach where nana and nonno joined us . .

 and a seagull too.

it's fun hanging around the beach after the lifeguards clear out . .

after being at the beach for awhile, nana turned to us and and asked if we were ready to go. "sure," i said, "we can heat the leftover potato and kale soup for dinner." "oh," nana exclaimed! "didn't we tell you? we thought we'd go to gosman's dock for dinner!" well, morgana and chanda were very excited about that.

i was too! i had never eaten there before! morgana and i shared a bucket of mussels and then a fried fisherman's platter. chanda had fish and chips. afterwards, we walked around the shops and had fun picking out a beautiful necklace for deychen for her birthday. oh! and then on the way home we stopped at john's ice cream and picked out a quart of mocha almond fudge for dessert at home!
