election day

chanda has a special presentation at work today . . she's a bit nervous . . but greg and i are sure it will go well!

at 2:30 i left to help ellen at the studio and walked by the elementary school to see how busy the polls were . . with almost two weeks of early voting, it was quiet. 

the poll worker gave me an extra sticker which i put on my sweater (it was another beautiful warm day - 65 degrees about).

my instagram stories have been filled with how to vote for the city's propositions and also with everyone's worries about how things will go . . along with many reassurances that no matter how things do go, we'll be fine and we will stand strong.

the children are starting to learn the christmas dances. today they began with march of the wooden soldiers and ellen felt they did very well (they will also learn the candle dance and the russian dance, along with the sugar plum dream - korrina, morgana and chanda performed all these pieces at christmas time in the studio at dance theatre workshop on 19th street).

greg and i met at moustache for dinner . . it felt peaceful and relaxing to sit there and enjoy ouzi (a chicken and rice pastry dish) and falafel.

(chanda was invited to a special dinner at serafina restaurant this evening with the new school . . many people were traveling in for a special workshop and one person couldn't attend so she was able to step into their place. she said it was very nice and she had the salmon.)

well, i guess i'll maybe go check the news updates . . and text korrina . . and see if my sister has sent an email . . morgan wrote in earlier while we were at moustache and i sent a few stories via instagram and some funny saturday night live skits with kamala as a response. just trying to keep the mood light and breezy here! maybe i'll pull out my knitting and watch some mindless and fun netflix show (i've been watching some bridgerton lately) . . or read my yankee magazine . . and have dessert!

primary day

chanda and i went to vote, but actually didn't vote. we scanned in blank ballots in protest of our government's sending of weapons to the current war on people driven from their homeland. it felt good to speak out in this way as my prior calls and letters, and the protests that are ongoing, haven't been able to end the support . . so far.

korrina and chanda came over for breakfast after which we all visited our polling place (ps 3 this year)  . . 

where we ran into kendall on her way out.

chanda wasn't feeling well and worried that she had covid as her friend had tested positive for it just yesterday . . 

afterwards, i did some grocery shopping with chanda, morgan went to a dance reherasal, and korrina visited the wine store and then met chanda and i at the butcher shop.

primary day

i passed this construction site this morning and enjoyed watching the workers haul a bucket up and down on their pulley system.

do you wonder what was in the bucket?

i ran a bunch of errands this morning (shoes that did not fit needed to be dropped at fed ex and pants that did not fit needed to be returned to the j. crew store, and the tick that bit me needed to be dropped off at the doctor's office . . and thank goodness they accepted it this time; though the technician did call me to ask if the little speck in the middle of the damp paper towel was the tiny tick that was supposed to be tested. i said, "yes!") and then i met korrina at the elementary school to vote . . 

she came over for a little bit and we put together a nice lunch of leftover beet salad, mozzarella, tomatoes, prosciutto bread and salami . .

which was enjoyed with a lot of talk about knitting projects and knitting backpacks and knitting project bags.

 

after she left i was actually motivated to vacuum and straighten up which i hadn't done in awhile . . probably because i've been running around with a dead tick in my bag, going to eye appointments and shopping for new pants to wear (and knitting on the wave of change jacket which has only one sleeve to go to be finished).

chanda sent a nice pic from florida this morning and hopped on a plane home in the afternoon. she's back now and is happy to reunited with pluto.

hmmm, melvin seems to be a bit persnickety, but then pluto is probably used to that from when madeline was alive when he was a kitten. she was always hissing at him. he probably thinks that it's normal cat behavior. povero pluto. we love you pluto!

pluto is a little christmas cat this evening with the streetlight shining in like the star of bethlehem over the couch.

it was a beautiful sunset and rainstorm over new jersey this evening . . 

and there was a crew rowing by. it is such a little boat moving out there on the vast river, but if you go to full screen you might be able to see it.

it's been humid lately, but not too hot. the mornings have been dark! it's also been cloudy in the mornings, but the days are getting shorter, sadly.

tuesday

 

greg was out the door around 6 am to vote this morning. it was still quite dark.

 

i wanted to get a photo, so i watched out the window with pluto to see him get in line. i had to wait fifteen minutes for him to move ahead enough to be seen. he was hidden by the trees on the left for awhile.

 

he's the little dot in the center, standing in front of the vote aquí sign. it was the only time there was a line to vote today. i've heard that other places haven't been crowded, either. most everyone participated in early voting. i have no idea what is going on right now . . i'm not paying attention. they've said that we may not know the outcome right away, anyway, as there have been so many mail-in ballots.

i have a chicken roasting in the oven with carrots and sweet potatoes. i went out today to the butcher for it, and stopped at the mah ze dahr bakery as i heard they were giving out chocolate chip cookies to everyone with an "i voted" sticker. i ended up also buying two slices of chocolate cake with ganache that we can share for dessert. i stopped by kendall's on the way home to bring her a few chocolate chip cookies.
