ellen's student krista performed one of her many wonderful dance pieces this evening on chrystie street which chanda was also in (titled "off the cuff").
by day the blue will pale down into white where it touches the white of the land, after sunset it has a new circumference-orange, melting upwards into tenderest purple. but the core of blue persists, and so it is by night. then the stars hang like lamps from the immense vault. the distance between the vault and them is as nothing to the distance behind them, and that farther distance, though beyond colour, last freed itself from blue. -e.m. forster (a passage to india)

concert day
the dance concert began at 2 pm this afternoon. morgan performed run for it along with two improvs with the alumni class, and the six and seven year old children performed the group piece, the wedding of the mouse. it was a wonderful show and the house was almost sold out with an enthusiastic audience.
i'm glad it was held on a sunday afternoon so korrina and josh could attend (thankfully, korrina has off from work on sundays).
greg helped with load out while i went back to the house to check on the cats and to feed them. i met him after he parked the car and we dropped off some bags at home before walking to meet everyone for dinner . .
at moustache restaurant on seventh avenue.
we shared zatter bread, falafel, hummus and babaganouj, a chicken pitza, tabbouleh and a spinach/chickpea salad . .
(also moussaka, my favorite)
and baklava and turkish coffee for dessert. such a delicious meal!
morgana attempted to read the grounds, as taught be a friend (feraday whose wedding they attended in turkey last summer . . )
we then walked with korrina and josh to the christopher street/sheridan square train station before heading home . .
good night . .

blueberries and a blue sky
blueberries appeared at the green market this morning . .
and the smoke had cleared leaving the sky more blue than yesterday.
morgana stopped by the green market on the way to the theatre this morning. ellen has two shows today and morgana is helping with the children and helping to stage manage.
the cats were sunbathing this morning and bird watching . .
and yesterday i did manage to block my vest.
chanda brought pluto by at 11am. it's a little stressful around here . . it'll take them a few days to relax and get used to each other. cricket is ready to play and snuggle, but pluto is defensive and hissy.
i make sure they're fed and happy so they aren't too cranky, but little things will set them off such as the light from greg's phone shining on the ceiling and startling them.
chanda felt a little sad and apprehensive about leaving him, but i know she'll have fun at her seminar.
in the evening i went to the theatre to see the 7:30 show, ellen's teenage students (morgan was backstage for this show also).
one of ellen's students made this sign for her a number of years ago.
it's raining right now, and everyone has gone to sleep. i started the shawl i mentioned yesterday, and am really enjoying working on it as it's very simple and i can knit anywhere and not get lost in the pattern. good night, it'll be nice falling asleep to the sound of the rain.

tech and dancing
there was a tech rehearsal today for morgan's dance in ellen's concert.
i'm actually not sure of the title yet, though a poster has been made.
the music is polysics' my sharona - afterwards, there were some notes from ellen and from the lighting designer saying he would think about several ideas overnight and add them at friday's rehearsal.

sunday night dance concert
it was an evening of firsts: first night out to a public event since covid for the grown ups and first concert ever for the little one.
i had reserved our time to enter little island several weeks ago, when my cousin let me know that her friend leo sandoval would be performing a free concert there with his company, music from the sole. we were surprised by how crowded it was . . i don't know why i thought it wouldn't be crowded, when i'm well aware that everyone and their cousin has been pouring into our neighborhood at night to have dinner and drinks out on the town!
we entered little island and had to walk up to the glade. we thought that they would allow kendall to stay down below with the stroller, but that was not possible, so we rolled on up and unloaded the little one and wiggled our way into the audience. greg stayed with the stroller at the very top. he's not one for wiggling betwixt people and fortunately for kendall and i, he did not mind staying with stroller and bags and just listening to the music.
aurélien was a little stunned at first, i think, but slowly warmed up to the experience and started bouncing to the beat. he enjoyed looking around at everyone and watching the children who were sitting behind him.
i loved every minute of the concert. it was so joyful and uplifting and everyone around us was dancing and clapping and enjoying it also. it felt good to be so happy.
(after the concert i did go up to say hello and it was very nice to meet him after hearing so much about his dancing and visits with my cousin.)
and past the cunard pier 54 arch . . (pier 54 was where the cunard ships lusitania and mauretania docked, and where the survivors of the titanic landed after being rescued by the carpathia in 1912).
lovely evening tunes from the bar entwine . .
