almost the equinox

 we walked to the river this evening . . just to see the sunset . . and to take note of the shorter days . . 

 there was also a big climate march today in midtown and the traffic along west street was extra busy and extra slow. from what i've read everyone had a great time and there was a terrific turnout. i liked the big sunflower signs and the dove puppets that the marchers carried. it must be the most beautiful march that has walked the canyons of nyc! you can read the huffington post article about it here.

update and sunrise on montauk

morgana and i just got back from a short visit to my mom and dad. i dropped her at her dance intensive on 37th street and came home. she has one more week dancing with betty jones and fritz ludin, and then she begins a three week summer dance intensive with the limon company, along with her friends lina and emma lee.

it's been difficult blogging lately. the main computer is in a room shared with korrina, so i don't like to work when she's sleeping . . . and since she has two jobs lately, she's been home a lot and . . . sleeping! for awhile i was using the laptop (in the morning, in the living room, before everyone woke) that greg and i got morgana and chanda to use for language work. however, all of a sudden the cooling fan went kaput. we sent it off to hewlett packard as it wasn't even a year old and the warranty still held. they sent it back last week . . and it couldn't get past a grey screen!!! it wouldn't turn on correctly!! now we're waiting for them to send a mailing label so we can ship it back to them . . again. needless to say, i am not at all pleased with hewlett packard!!!!

i also didn't blog for a long time as our dear cat xena was so very sick. i was spending a lot of time trying to find foods she would eat . . and feeding them to her. and then jack got sick!! we really thought we were losing him as he would just keel over on his side and lie there like a bloated whale. the day we took him into the vet, we thought we would have to put him down. it ended up that he had lyme disease. now he is on a strong medication and is once again his old self. however, we did lose our dear xena. (sigh). i will be going back over the past month and posting. i actually have many photos up in drafts, i just need to put words to the posts.

also, morgana and i drove out to see my mom and dad as they were feeling a bit under the weather. my dad has had after affects from his cancer treatments, and my mom was feeling a bit helpless about it, i think. they're better now, and are looking forward to several visits from family in the next few weeks. it's good the girls are so grown up and can take such good care of themselves, and help with pets and grandparents.

i braided morgana's hair in the afternoon and we went out for a visit to the local health food store.

naturally good cafe has organic milk, tea and coffee, AND equal exchange hot chocolate mix.

after the cafe treat, we walked . . i mean drove (though it was only a few blocks away, but this isn't the city . .) to hotel beach to see how the ocean waves were doing . .

they were still beautifully wild!

and the color from the setting sun was breathtaking . .

we stopped at the montauk public library before heading home to nana and nonno for dinner.

we checked out the movie, nanny mcphee. the girls would like to watch it with nana. morgana also checked out, the story of the magi, the glass angels, the twenty children of johann sebastian bach, hatshepsut - his majesty, and a picture book about charles dickens.

sunset on bank street

the sunsets along our street have been so beautiful lately. a digital camera doesn't capture the colors very well, but you can see how the light reflects off the buildings and cars and the cobblestones. the sun is also moving a little further northwest each day. a week ago it was setting directly in the center of the street, now it's a little more to the right. bank street is a spring time stonehenge.

the sky was beautiful this evening when chanda and i went out for a walk.

we stopped at the grocery store. hmmm . . it feels like just yesterday that she was the right height for this cart!

sun pictures on wednesday

today was another beautiful sunny day. m and c decided to make a few sun pictures.

they chose jack's favorite spot to sit with their pictures . . (jack moves around the house from sun spot to sun spot. . )

they went outside and collected pinecones, pine branches, arborvitae branches, and sea grass. the paper turns a lovely deep blue. we'll have to find a some nice frames . .
