tuesday evening

ellen's six year olds had their dance presentation for their parents today. everything went well and they had a lot of fun. parents and siblings were all enthusiastic. afterwards, i met greg at mcnally jackson and we stopped at an italian place on houston street for salad and pizza before coming home. 

tuesday, may 6th

i saw this man taking a photo of his dog on my way home from helping ellen today. she's busy preparing the children for a presentation for their parents next week. they have little one minute solo dances to do along with a one minute group piece. they've been having fun. morgana called to say hello while i was walking home as today was my mom's birthday. (greg met me and we picked up a take out dinner at moustache.)

here's a photo celebrating nana from 2008 (with deychen visiting too). i miss feeling spring arrive with my mom. she always loved having everything beginning to bloom for her big day.

tuesday night

 
the six year olds had their little recital today for parents and siblings. it went very well. everyone had a fun time. anna was missing and charlotte filled in for her. they performed march of the wooden soldiers, the sugar plum fairy, the candle dance and the russian dance. afterwards, i walked with ellen to the morton williams store and picked up a few christmas treats (carrs' crackers, pfeffernüsse cookies and stollen). ellen was getting her dinner (roasted brussel sprouts which she has with brown rice).

at 7:15 greg and i met korrina at 8th and broadway and had dinner together at uncle ted's.

election day

chanda has a special presentation at work today . . she's a bit nervous . . but greg and i are sure it will go well!

at 2:30 i left to help ellen at the studio and walked by the elementary school to see how busy the polls were . . with almost two weeks of early voting, it was quiet. 

the poll worker gave me an extra sticker which i put on my sweater (it was another beautiful warm day - 65 degrees about).

my instagram stories have been filled with how to vote for the city's propositions and also with everyone's worries about how things will go . . along with many reassurances that no matter how things do go, we'll be fine and we will stand strong.

the children are starting to learn the christmas dances. today they began with march of the wooden soldiers and ellen felt they did very well (they will also learn the candle dance and the russian dance, along with the sugar plum dream - korrina, morgana and chanda performed all these pieces at christmas time in the studio at dance theatre workshop on 19th street).

greg and i met at moustache for dinner . . it felt peaceful and relaxing to sit there and enjoy ouzi (a chicken and rice pastry dish) and falafel.

(we brought home saffron rice pudding and baklava.)

(chanda was invited to a special dinner at serafina restaurant this evening with the new school . . many people were traveling in for a special workshop and one person couldn't attend so she was able to step into their place. she said it was very nice and she had the salmon.)

well, i guess i'll maybe go check the news updates . . and text korrina . . and see if my sister has sent an email . . morgan wrote in earlier while we were at moustache and i sent a few stories via instagram and some funny saturday night live skits with kamala as a response. just trying to keep the mood light and breezy here! maybe i'll pull out my knitting and watch some mindless and fun netflix show (i've been watching some bridgerton lately) . . or read my yankee magazine . . and have dessert!

voting, a halloween dance and dinner

 
korrina and i voted today at our early voting site on clarkson street.

today the children presented their halloween dance to their friends and families. ellen first rehearsed with them for thirty minutes before everyone was let in for the little performance. all went well and everyone was enthusiastic - children and parents. they did wonderfully and it was a lot of fun.

chanda spent the day at school and at her school related work for which she has a fellowship this semester (urban systems lab where she researches stories about how urban areas can become more resilient in relation to the changing climate in terms of planning, community engagement and nature based solutions). i think she was relating a funny anecdote here about her class.

i met greg after helping ellen today and we walked to rockmeisha, a ramen shop that used to be on barrow street but then closed during covid. korrina was riding the bus home one day when she noticed that it had reopened on 14th street.

fried oysters, which was the special for the evening. it's so nice to see a well loved place reopen.

today was the last class day for the five year olds. they had so much fun performing their spring poem dance and their twinkle little star dance for their friends and family

rainy tuesday

while these three were cozy at home, i ventured out into the rain to help ellen with class . .

dinner with greg at danbo, a ramen place i noticed when sending a photo to korrina of a new wine bar on the same street. we thought we would try it this evening. i didn't think it was as good as the two places i like in our neighborhood, but greg really liked it.
