veggie box day

 our daffodils down by the laundry room are popping up amidst the snow we had yesterday.

 it was a slushy, grey and cold walk to the fresh food box today.

 sixth avenue looking south to jefferson market library and the freedom tower.

 and finally . . little river cafe on first avenue after picking up the veggies. this art installation in the cafe is by liz collins and was installed in 2017 in memoriam for her father, captain ferdinand. i. "bo" collins, jr (1932 - 2009). it is silk and polyester textile and stainless steel, and was commissioned by the alexandria real estate equities, inc. for the little river cafe. it's a tribute to "rivers and open water and to a decorated naval captain devoted to them, the artist's father." the artist remembers summers when her father would take outside his industrial sewing machine and make brightly colored spinnakers and sails for his boat: "i remember the crisp sailcloth and all the gear: the ropes, the cleats, the steel cables slapping the boom in the wind. my most joyful times with my father were on boats. he was the master of everything when he was driving or sailing a boat. i never tired of his stories, and they always made my imagination go wild with deep awe and wonder about the power of the waves and water." i was happy to finally observe the plaque with all of this information by the take out waters and sodas!
