snowdrops and socks

yes, the snowdrops are out, and the daffodils are poking up their green tips. we have cardinals and chickadees singing in the courtyard, joining in with the blue jays who had stayed the winter. it's supposed to snow on wednesday, but i can't think that it will be much. spring came very early this year, and i think it's here to stay.

these are three pairs of socks that were given as christmas and epiphany gifts this year. i also made korrina a blue grey pair, like chanda's in the center. morgana's feet are on the left, and our friend amelia's feet are on the right. she received an extra pair epiphany morning, since she stayed over after the twelfth night party (it made me so happy to have an "extra" pair of knitted socks tucked away in my drawer) . i also gave an extra pair in teal to morgana before she left. that's five pairs of socks finished by january 6th, which checks off the months of august, september, october, november and december! i think i actually did make a pair a month . . of course i have yet to start a pair for 2018, though i certainly have plenty of sock yarn in my stash.

it's saturday morning, and i'm about to make a pot of corn grits (or polenta) for breakfast. chanda has a class with ellen at 11:30, and i think greg and i will visit the whitney museum today to see the grant wood exhibit. he painted the iconic american gothic, and i'm actually excited to see it in person (like when we were able to see flaming june at the frick, and i see now that i haven't posted about that visit . . it was the summer of 2015 when greg's mom and dad were here also . . maybe i can remedy that since i know i have all the photos). the nor'easter we had yesterday has blown itself away, though i think it's still pounding cape cod where my nephew is. he lost power last night. there's been so much flooding in massachusetss. they were hit really hard.

  1. Congratulations on knitting so many socks! Charlotte is knitting away with the wool you gave her. She took her knitting along when we went to Buffalo on Thursday. On the way back, we drove right into a really bad snowstorm that dumped two feet of snow onto us! Tree branches fell, power outages, and lots of snow. It has not melted and the cats cannot walk in it. It is too deep.

    How was the exhibit?

    1. That is a lot of snow! I'm always amazed at how much you get :) I thought the exhibit was interesting and I liked his paintings (though I've never really liked American Gothic). He also did book illustrations and the style he developed was influenced by several Northern Renaissance artists (such as Albrecht Dürer whose work I will always remember being astounded by when I was in Vienna).
