  the presidents of the united states of america

1789

george washington never owned a camel

but he looked thru the eyes in his head

with a camel's calm and wary look.

hooks that wd irritate an ox

held his teeth together

and he cd build a fence with his own hands

tho he preferred to go fishing

as anyone else wd

while others did the work for him

for tho he had no camels he had slaves enough

and probably made them toe the mark by keeping an eye on them

for he wd never had stood for anything fishy.

we went out to brooklyn this afternoon, for a performance by the sokolow theatre/dance ensemble. i met greg and chanda in the new park on seventh avenue as i had to run to lionbrand for an additional skein of peacock colored yarn for the temperature blanket for days that are in the 30's. there have been a lot of those.

the show was at the mark o'donnell theatre at the actors fund arts center on schermerhorn street in downtown brooklyn. it was a theatre similar to the one they used to perform at on 14th street, which got too pricey. it was a full house today for a very moving and beautiful performance. they danced four pieces by anna sokolow and one by leni wylliams: poem (1995), moods (1975), preludes (1984), dreams (1961) and sweet in the morning (1992).
