by day the blue will pale down into white where it touches the white of the land, after sunset it has a new circumference-orange, melting upwards into tenderest purple. but the core of blue persists, and so it is by night. then the stars hang like lamps from the immense vault. the distance between the vault and them is as nothing to the distance behind them, and that farther distance, though beyond colour, last freed itself from blue. -e.m. forster (a passage to india)

quiet saturday morning . .
she's off to take the sat test at xavier high school on 16th street . . (i veered off to the right to get a tea at grounded cafe . . )
we were out at 7:30 am . .
not many neighbors were out, but the cafes were ready for the brunch crowd.
They schedule them a lot here! My friend says there will be another chance to take them in May and then in August . . and I'm hoping in September too, as that was when I thought it would be good for her to retake them. She thought it went just alright . . she didn't have time to finish the reading and writing. She didn't do the essay this time around, but she plans to for the retake. Good luck to Charlotte!
Yes, I meant early in the morning. I did not think there were any during the summer! I thought the last chance to take it for the school year was June. The next date will be August and then October. However, the official new dates are not out yet, the last official date I have is the June one. I got lots of books from the library to practice and we also linked Charlotte's PSAT results to the Khan site. Charlotte does not like their test prep, though. She thinks they don't explain enough. Jonathan, however, loved it, but he did very well, anyway. I wonder if Charlotte will be able to finish it in time. She did have enough time for the PSAT. Good luck for the retake!
Thanks! Chanda thinks that Khan Academy could offer better explanations also, especially in regard to the algebra problems. She found a Mathematical Thinking class on Coursera that's free which she is enjoying. When she sends me the link, I'll forward it to you in case Charlotte might like to try it.
How did it go? Charlotte wants to take it in May and again in the fall.
ReplyDeleteP.S. Why do they schedule them always so early?

DeleteOh, you mean so early in the morning? I'm not sure, but I think it's good. She finished by 12:30, and her friend finished the essay by about 1:30.
