today greg had a colonoscopy (our doctor had mentioned several years ago, when greg turned 50, that he thought it would be good to do). greg said the worst part was drinking the stuff they give you to clean you out. he had to drink it twice: the night before and the morning of.
and of course afterwards he was hungry, because he couldn't eat the day before.
we found a place called open kitchen, just around the corner from the endoscopy office. they had juices, salad fixings, an open hot food bar and an open cold food bar, a taco chef, a sandwich chef, and probably a burger chef too, though i don't remember noticing that.
it was large, and by the time we left, it was packed with the lunch crowd.
we ended up walking home along commerce street and passing milk and cookies bakery, which greg had never been to. he picked out a large chocolate chip blondie to take home to have with milk. they were actually out of whole milk in the store, which i thought was very strange considering it's a "milk" and cookie bakery!

so, the results from the colonoscopy were fine. he had a small polyp which was removed, and the lab will let us know in a week or so whether it was benign or not.

DeleteNo, the worst is when you have to go through the actual procedure without the sedation because you are a nursing mother of a baby. And the laxatives they give you can cause intestinal upset for over a month, as they did in my case.

OH, no, Eva! This is dreadful. I'm so sorry you had such a painful and stressful time. Ugh. I hope you never have to go through such a procedure again. Is everything fine with your colon now?
DeleteMore or less. It will never be "fine" again because of too many interventions, attempted surgeries, and real ones.
DeleteOh, I'm sorry Eva. That's not easy to deal with. My cousin's husband is also having a difficult time with his colon. I think we all begin to have "issues" as we grow older. For Greg it's his knees . . for me . . my right hand and arm have begun to ache (I think it's something with using the mouse and with knitting) and Greg's mom just had her second knee operation (I think she's also had both hips done . . ).
DeleteIt is weird how body parts seem to do the wrong things all of a sudden. Peter's mom also has knee problems and back problems and has had surgeries on those. She will have more surgery on them soon. I sometimes get those aches in the arm from typing. Have you tried Voltaren? It used to be available only per prescription in this country, but it is over the counter now. It has been around in Germany for ages and is safe. It is very helpful for things like that. It is a cream. It might also help with Greg's knees.
