christmas tree expedition on a warm spring-like day

we had our annual christmas tree expedition today to maple row tree farm in easton, connecticut.

after saying hi to the oxen, bud and nick, we headed to the north field where i came across this fat little guy.

i wanted to take him home immediately . . spit spot. trip over. eat our picnic lunch and get back in time for the 2:15 balm in gilead call.

but it was chanda's turn to pick the tree this year . . so we headed . . over there . . to search for a white (or concolor) fir . .

this one was a bit too short . . the next was a bit too skinny . .

it was time to head past the mist into the west field . .

 do you see chanda?

nothing in that field . . time to try another . .

from the looks on everyone's faces, this tree is not going to make the cut . . though it is a lovely tree!

back up and over the hill . .

chanda gave up. she decided to have lunch with bud instead.

ah ha! my tree was calling me!

don't ask me how we managed to find it again amidst the thousands of trees that were there!

homeward bound . .

morgana and i were all set to carry it back . . but the truck man suddenly arrived! out of the blue! and greg was insistent that it should have a ride . .

morgana and i did not think it was too happy about this situation . . it went "ahhhh" all the way back . . . .

chanda is happy again after having some food . . and suggested we take the tree still laying on the ground instead of our own. she wondered if anyone would notice we were taking the wrong tree . .

we loaded it up and drove home through the mist . . it was 65 degrees out today.
