herbal walk

we went to central park this morning, to meet with margo mullein and learn about edible plants in the park.

we all had baskets, scissors and canning jars. vinegar making was also on the agenda.

she talked about the native american medicine wheel and going from long nights and long days into equal nights and equal days . . equinoxes and the solstices. she talked about the native american seven directions, north, south, east west, upwards towards the great spirit, and down towards mother earth, and within one's own self. she also spoke about how to pick plants . . giving thanks to them, observing them, gathering mindfully.

japanese knotweed, not indigenous but now very plentiful and very helpful for lyme disease.

gathering red clover for a vinegar. red clover: high in calcium and minerals, balances the thyroid, anti-inflammatory; good daily nourisher.

it was a beautiful day to be walking around in the park with warm sunshine and a cool breeze.
