yarn along . . april

 i was wandering through the barnes and noble union square store with chanda, when i passed a book with a photo of seashells, titled the shell collector. i was instantly excited, thinking i had stumbled upon a layman's book of personal stories about collecting seashells. upon closer inspection, i realized it was a book of short stories by anthony doerr, and on the back cover was a reference to another book by him titled, four seasons in rome. my interest quickly shifted to the non-fiction travel memoir which i immediately went in search of. thankfully, it was on the shelf in the travel section and i was soon the happy owner of yet another book about italy by foreigners seeking to understand the italian persona, and their own in the process. 

i really enjoyed doerr's tales of navigating italy's old buildings and busy streets with his newborn twins in tow, his attempts at writing his historic novel in the office given to him by the american academy of arts and letters, and his awe of rome's history and magnificence amidst the warmth and love of his trastevere neighbors. i find his writing to be poetic, and i hope to make it to the mulberry street library today to pick up the shell collector and all the light we cannot see, which won the pulitzer in 2015.

the shawl i'm currently working on is the pebble beach shawl, by helen stewart, with stonehedge fiber mill's crazy. i love watching the colors change as it grows.
