i've been driving my dad past the flanders duck on our way to riverhead for his cancer treatments. my mom remembers her mom buying milk and eggs here when she was a little girl. i think it was in a different spot then (i think it was in riverhead). i've never been inside myself, and i'm not sure what it's being used for these days. in the past it was used to help a farmer's duck business. i guess it was a big advertisement for him. i find it funny that it's now on the national register of historic places! maybe we should make an effort to visit one day! when we first arrived on tuesday the weather was summer-like and it even went up to 80 degrees in manhattan. today it's windy and cold and will probably be rainy for our ride home. my dad has a volunteer driver today. on monday he may drive himself, but for the rest of the week my nephew will take him, followed by my sister. then he may be on his own for a week or so. we met a nice lady in the office yesterday who was coming in for treatments from shelter island, an even more complicated commute than montauk. here are a few photos . .
What a funny building! I guess a building from the 1930s is already history these days. Kind of strange to think that way.

Oh, we had one nice warm day, but now it's really cold and rainy as well. Nobody wants to go outside.
ReplyDeletethank you, eva :) i think we all feel like we walked into a strange dream and are waiting to wake up. everyone is very positive and that is a good sign. i think it's quite overwhelming for my dad, but he's always been very healthy and strong and i think that will stand him well.
ReplyDeleteit's quite cold here too, again! and it rained for the entire drive home. we were happy to come up to the warm apartment.

I know you are not Catholic, but St. Peregrine is the saint for cancer patients. We gave a medal with his picture to Peter's mom when she had cancer. She is Lutheran, but she hung it over her bed. Her cancer has not returned so far!
ReplyDeleteWe had snow this morning and last night. Our snowdrops are still in bloom.
The oven is still okay. It's not under warranty because they told us the handle was just decorative (although it holds the whole door together, without it the door falls out). Tomorrow we will get a new screen door for our back door. It's completely ruined.

Deletethank you for mentioning st. peregrine! i will look for a picture and say a prayer each day. my friend marisa is catholic and often refers me to the proper saint when something is lost, or someone is ill. i find the guardian spirits are very close when one reaches out to them.
