the day went by quickly. chanda had friends stay over and i gave them coffee and chocolate croissants before they left (chanda went to work). i then cleaned out the refrigerator and the freezer, cleaned the bathroom, remade the bed in the back bedroom, vacuumed and did laundry. it was then time to figure out what to have for dinner. i decided on bacon, lettuce and tomato sandwiches, but worried that my local health food store would be out of produce and dry goods as i had seen several pictures on instagram of stores (whole foods and trader joe's) with empty shelves. thankfully, they had everything in stock, except for garlic and onions. i'll go to the green market tomorrow and hopefully find these items there. i hope the farmers come into town in the morning. greg and i decided not to go up to connecticut tomorrow as we were worried (well, i was worried), that it would be difficult returning sunday evening. the mayor has declared a state of emergency and all museums have closed, all events have been cancelled, and most everyone is working from home. even broadway is dark. people were still out at the restaurants and bars this evening, but i wonder how long that will last.
my brother-in-law texted at 6 pm that my nephew's surgery was done and that he was going into recovery. i didn't even know he was having surgery!!! my sister had texted me yesterday afternoon at 3 pm that they had taken him to the hospital and he was getting fluids and antibiotics for diverticulitis, and that was the last news i had. (this is my nephew in florida, whom greg and i had visited over the summer.)
everything is crazy.i can't handle this president anymore, and all the idiot people who voted for him (and i know this includes greg's and my extended family members). he's insane and he terrifies too many of us, including the entire world!
pluto is a sweetheart and watched me clean all day, and then gave me the old stink eye when i wouldn't give him anymore treats because he had vomited on the rug.
greg and i had to go upstairs at 5:30 pm and ask our new neighbors to please stop doing whatever it was they were doing. it sounded like they were dribbling cannonballs in their living room. when we knocked on the door, a young man answered and in response to our request to be quiet, he said he had been doing "abs." greg had to have him repeat it four times before he understood. i was just so amused that i couldn't say anything (though i had surmised that he had been "working out"). fortunately, the mom came home just as we were leaving, so she was made aware of the noise problem. he also had a tv or music playing quite loud at the same time, and i asked him to turn the volume down. an hour ago he had the tv on again and was watching a movie. i find tv noise very distressing . . especially movies. there's always creepy music and bombs going off and people yelling and sirens wailing. fortunately, he turned it off and stomped off to bed. i'm actually not sure if it's the son, or a young boyfriend of the woman who lives there.

Aw Dorina I am so sorry you have craziness not only in the White House but the upstairs apartment as well 😜 We both have whackos running the show, within a week your blonde haired buffoon went from, "what's all the fuss? It's only flu" to "This is a lockdown, no one can enter the country." Our idiot is playing fast and loose with a calculated plot based on herd immunity, so for now most folk are wandering around and gatherings are still occurring. He is likely to announce a shut down on large meetings at some point next week when quite conveniently more people will be infected 😡 Interesting to read that his old stomping ground, Eton has closed its doors, the rich always doing things their way! We have reduced contact with the outside world and are only going out if we have to. Love and hugs as always xxxx
ReplyDeleteIt's true, he did switch gears so quickly and is so undiplomatic and bullying. Everyone started shutting down here seemingly on their own, though I think the governor and mayor made announcements; they weren't going to wait for anything to come out of DC. I'm so glad you are staying in and being careful. I saw many online posts saying it was best to keep sequestered to reduce spreading and catching. Take care dear San xoxo
DeleteDid you find garlic and onions? Your poor nephew! Was that sudden? And crazy neighbors! We had neighbors like that when we were living in an apartment in South Bend, IN. I am so sorry! But you did a lot accomplished! My friend Sybille in Italy can hardly go out anymore. She has to show a pass when she goes out and can only go to certain places. It is all crazy! I just hope that my mother will not get infected. She is in the hospital where all the virus people get send.
DeleteYes, I was worrying about your mother yesterday when I was thinking about my parents and WWII. I've also been reading about the measures taken in Italy and know that it has become very strict. I've also been enjoying their singalongs that have been posted on Instagram :) Thankfully, my neighbors have been quieter since we had that last encounter. Here's hoping it remains so :) Yesterday, when I revisited my health food store, I found garlic and onions! They had restocked. That was very reassuring. I have gotten a lot accomplished and that feels good. I haven't had a chance to work on my sweater, but hope to today :)
