winding yarn with pluto (and an update)

sometimes i'm shocked at how quickly time goes by and i haven't posted. when this happens the days feel like so much dust under the carpet. day after day sweeps by, endlessly, and i feel like i've been caught up in a dust devil in the middle of kansas.

anyway, here i am winding yarn with pluto bouncing around the apartment as if it was daytime and not one in the morning (i'm writing this in the wee hours of the 17th, but posting it on the 16th). we celebrated epiphany on monday the 6th and then morgana flew back to london with jenny, and chanda flew to london on saturday the 11th . . and greg and i have had a quiet apartment with just pluto to cause trouble. i've actually been madly knitting on a colorwork cowl for the vogue knitting live event that is this weekend. the cowl was produced by vogue's new diversity advisory council and all proceeds from the pattern sales go to the hetrick-martin institute for their work with lgbtq youth. i haven't done colorwork since the sweaters i made for korrina and morgana when they were little, so it's been a fun challenge. also, since it was made in the round as a tube, i had to graft the ends together with the kitchener stitch. the last time i tried this with a scarf, my friend christine completed it for me as i had made such a mess of it. this time i took my time and watched an hour of tutorials before finally summoning the courage and diving in. all went well until the last stitch which suddenly knotted up as i pulled it through. however, i patiently studied the situation and finally unknotted it, wove in the ends, soaked it and blocked it. today it rested on the heater to completely dry before i wore it to the pre-vogue knitting event at the here now space with myak yarn that korrina and i attended. it was fun seeing others' cowls and sharing information about mine. tomorrow i will try to get a good photo and post it.
