korrina's new apartment

korrina's commute home from work at night has become so time consuming and frustrating (trains go out of service, trains get delayed in tunnels, trains stop at stations where she has to get off and take a bus to the next station, etc. . . ) that she decided they needed to move. she and brian did not have a lot of time to find a new place together as their schedules don't always coincide (hazards of being chefs with crazy work hours). however, after a few weeks of searching, they found a lovely place in queens. today she asked if i could help her move some boxes. they don't need to be out of their old place until the last day of january, so they don't have to move everything at once.

 i was excited to see the new neighborhood as she had been saying it was really nice. her new apartment is really nice also. it was very clean, which means a lot when renting an nyc apartment. the building is also kept up well, another big plus.

 the most frustrating and worrying part was finding a cockroach. yes, it was a live one, unfortunately. i suggested she bomb before moving in, and since it's a coop building, they will probably offer exterminating/fumigation services. hopefully, it's not a bad problem.

 it's a pretty kitchen, and she might be able to fit in a small table and two chairs, or a counter with stools.

 the tub tiles look a lot better than our tub tiles.

we walked to the local cafe . . 

 and poked our heads into the pet store whose proprietor was friendly and helpful and suggested a good vet for the cat in the next town, just a short bus ride away (or a long walk).

she's finishing off my chili. i loved the new cafe . . the food was good, the people were friendly and the music was great! (chanda and i were worried because we love the cafe in her old neighborhood, milk and honey, where we've had many fun get togethers -- but the new place is wonderful and we can look forward to many new get togethers).
