we had plans to meet ellen today at good stock cafe on carmine street. they specialize in soups and still sell victory garden goat milk ice cream, which chanda and i have been craving. however, their air conditioning wasn't working properly and it was too hot inside for ellen and chanda, so we decided to get sandwiches at murray's on bleecker street. i thought the sandwiches were just so so and a bit too expensive, but chanda and ellen enjoyed it. we then had ice cream at grom, which is always good. ellen has been considering traveling to new mexico to visit her nephew and his new little grandchild. we exclaimed at how beautiful new mexico is and that she should go. she was trying to figure out if she should take a bus to his town from phoenix, or rent a car and drive. a relative of her's thought the drive would be too isolating, but we thought she would be fine. i wonder what she will decide.
