at the whitney at night

it was members' night at the whitney . .

i asked chanda to meet me as there was an exhibit that would be ending soon that i wanted her to see. an artist named demian diné yazhi´ had two installations that were collaborations with two different poets. one was titled rez dog rez dirt where he layered text and narrative over footage of his grandparents' land north of chinle, where we were last summer. we had driven through the navajo hopi reservation from chinle to cameron and it was profound to hear him speaking of the land which we don't know much about, but which, of course he does. a line from the poem (by joy harjo) that accompanied the narrative that resonated with chanda was: "i want to know that i am worthy of all this sky."

i also viewed part of the david wojnarowicz exhibit that just opened. this painting is titled something from sleep iii (for tom rauffenbart), 1989.
