ellen, chanda's modern dance teacher, had reserved studio time so we walked over to 19th street today for her to review her modern piece. ellen puts on a concert each year at new york live arts in january (well, sometimes it's in december during nutcracker season) and this year chanda will be participating.
chanda also resumed her native american studies today. we looked at several books from the new york public library about the iroqouis.
i enjoyed reading this creation story retold by john bierhorst. he read many accounts recorded for the bureau of american ethnology and the canadian ethnology service, along with several native authors' written accounts. i think each nation must have their own special version.
i enjoyed the quiet day at home reading books and napping (!) and watching a rick steves' movie about germany.

What on earth is Chanda doing with her feet? A strengthening exercise perhaps? X
ReplyDeleteUmm . . . !!! I'm asking her now . .
DeleteYes, it is an exercise; a stretching exercise. She says she ties her feet together so her legs don't open up and then she feels the stretch in her hips and inner thighs. She says it helps with her turn out :P
You must have watched the movie I showed my students! We missed the Native American Day in our area on Saturday because we had the Nutcracker auditions. We have quite a few Senecas around here, there is even a reservation south of here and one north of here.
