today i woke and finished catherine the great. i really enjoyed this book and learned so much about russian and european history. the author wove facts and story very well . . catherine left letters and memoirs, so there were many direct quotes. one really gets a sense of her as a ruler and as a person.afterwards, i finally tackled a pile of mending. the cat had eaten parts of my lovely knit sheets, along with bites from pajama bottoms and tops. it feels good to have all of it finished.
dinner tonight was beet salad and millet croquettes from cynthia lair's feeding the whole family.
